How rare is the Aerodynamics package?

Hi guys,

I’ve never seen one of these on the roads here in Ontario. I’m wondering if us Canadians didn’t like the look or this was a rare option around the world? I have a hunch that this was a more common option in Europe but there’s little info out there.

I’m personally not a huge fan of the bumpers and spoiler but I wonder how the side skirts would look with the M-tech II pkg.

How do you guys feel about the pkg? I believe it was discontinued back in 2015 so don’t fall in love as there’s basically no chance of buying any of these parts.

With all these threads asking about the e46 value I wonder what a good condition factory Aerodynamics E46 would fetch on BAT? I doubt most of the collectors actually know of it’s existence.

Cheers, E46Envyy

Link?

I’m not talking about m-tech packages or base sport package…

BMW Part Number Front Spoiler: 51110000667
BMW Part Number Rear Apron: 51190027157, 51120000669
BMW Part Number Side Skirts Left and Right: 51710004613, 51710004614

The only website I can find selling the full kit:

They pop up on ebay (most in Germany) once in a while, usually in used condition, not always as a complete package.
It seems pretty rare, as everyone either went for the MSport trim (MT2) from factory or converted afterwards, so there was always more choice of MT2 parts.
Personally not a fan, as it uses old style fogs, the intakes seem smaller, and the rear bumper is very early-00's. The side profile, and the sideskirt-rear bumper side crease look nice though

it wasn’t very common. there was a blue 328Ci with it at the dealership on display when I bought my 323Ci. BMW coming from the E36 M3 it was a closer sporty styling transition between the two.
i may be mistaken but pretty sure it was a BMW Accessory. meaning it was installed after by the dealership. unlike most other later M-tech body parts installed at production line. also there wasn’t a package that came with this iirc.
they also had a much more modest Sedan and Station wagon one. those were more add-on facia/lips than whole bumpers.
BMW did close outs pricing on these for cheap long ago.

I agree that it’s probably a dealer option. Paint matching would’ve been a huge hassle for the dealer.

I also found one of the threads where ECS was selling the sedan kit for $99 back in 2008 but not the coupe/convertible (and you’re part of that thread).

So if it’s not an actual option code then that removes the collectability factor. Honestly my opinion on the kit has grown a little.

It was not part of any package and didn't have an option code, it's Sonderausstattung through and through.
Not sure how not having an option code diminishes collectability (a lot of the rarer items did not come from factory), but it just never got popular enough, and all the high prices nowadays are just because not many survived (and because parts prices are generally going up)

My comment about collectability is it's unknown if the kit came on the car from factory or was installed after the fact. Without the option code all you have is a rare body kit, with it you have a rare optioned E46.

I purchased the side skirts back in 2003, and they clean up the side profile nicely. Never went for the front or rear covers, though.
Interesting, I've had a set of side skirts kicking around in the garage for the last couple years and now I'm debating on how they'd look with the MtechII bumpers. Maybe I'll try test fitting one and see how it looks (they're painted jet black so without getting them painted it'll be hard to tell). My passenger side skirt is pretty damaged from a curb which is why I'd do the swap as overall there's not a big difference between the coupe aero kit and MtechII kit.

All I can find for the complete kit in the ETK is part number 51190004537 , which is under Retrofitting, Conversion, Accessories

Aerodynamics package

Clicking on the individual components doesn't say "for vehicles with S[nnnn]" like it does for other options. Does imply it was post-production line fit. Would be great if someone has an original price list from 1999, so we can see if it's listed, but then that wouldn't be definitive, as the importer for each market didn't always let customers order everything the factory would build.

i have that and it’s listed as a “BMW center-installed accessory”
along with the 18” Radial wheels

My car has this body kit and I love it more than my ZHP body kit, the only thing that it doesn't have that matches the kit is the rear OEM bumper. I personally like the OEM rear bumper over the one that comes with the body kit.
The car only had 50k miles when I bought it about a year and a half ago. Now it has 74k miles, don't really drive it much anymore. I'm thinking about selling it as I have a convertible ZHP and a coupe ZHP. I had ZHP wheels on it not to long ago and got tire of them. What do you guys think about the kit/car?

curious why M3 sideskirt and not M-Tech II sideskirts?

A friend of mine still has an Individual Dakargelb 325ci with that kit + AC-S add ons (rims/exhaust/interior bits), Aerokit fitted from factory, AC-S stuff from dealer before delivery.

It took about 6-7 months to get it delivered with those specs. He recently refused an offer of 16k€ for it.

Well, huh. Lookit that. I'd always thought this was PO Aftermarket,
but apparently it's Gen-Yoo-Whine optional!
I wish they'd put the optional struts, on, too, so it would close reasonably.
Yes, it's heavy.
But when all those downforts kick in about 45 mph, whoooo-weee, it's sure worth it!
The nose lightens up, the tail sits down, and
who cares that I don't have the bhp of a modern Hayoondai!*

*more realistically, I think I need to change the rest of the rear suspension bushings...
