Hello Everyone! First time post on here! I have upgraded from my previous E46 330xi and ended up grabbing a 2004 Carbon Black E46 M3. It was SMG, Factory Rod Bearings, and needed subframe reinforcement. After two months, I’ve finally completed all the work it’s needed, manual swap, rod bearings, subframe reinforcement, and all fluids changed. While I was there I decided to throw some coilovers, chassis mounted shifter, active autowerke headers, a new titanium rear section!

I just had to share my experience with you all, and let you all know that Valvetronic Designs is running a flash sale on their rear sections, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer.

We all know these cars are picky with sound configurations , but Valvetronic is truly trying to create the best sounding system for these cars.

From the low growl at idle to the symphony of sound at 8,000 RPM, there’s not a bad spot in the rev range.

Now, there's one small thing I'd like to mention, i’ve noticed the tips on the left side do stick out just a couple of millimeters more than the right, and it's my only gripe. But honestly, with a sound this incredible, it's a minor detail I'm more than willing to overlook.

If you're on the fence about upgrading your exhaust, I couldn’t recommend this rear section enough considering the massive sale at the moment.

Exact Setup:

Active Autowerke Headers

Stock Section 1
Stock Section 2

Nice exhaust system. Locally here in MD headers, etc. may have a problem. I have an older C6 Z06 that the prev owner had Kooks headers and hi flow cats and a BillyBoat exhaust installed. The corvette shop owner knew the car when I brought it in for service and told me the feds/EPA got after him and he no longer does headers. MD is one of the 14? CARB-compliant states so it is what it is. it’s not that you can’t have them, MD doesn’t inspect for components, dealers and shops might not want to risk installing them.

Is this a paid/sponsored post? Doesn't sound like an independent review.
Correct.

He works for the company.

IMHO, S54’s don’t sound that great regardless.

I do think there’s a better exhaust setup than this rear section paired with headers. Because valved mufflers, are just simple muffler delete with the valves open. Majority of cars don’t sound good with muffler deleted w/ headers unless is a V8, V10 or V12.

-> Rouge Engineering, SZCA, Supersprint, as a select few.

That shifter?

I have Supersprint Race mufflers ( has two mufflers of similar size to that and they sound great, but i wouldn't want them o be any louder particularly if car is a daily driver. Also have a custom, 3.5 inch single pipe race system on my track car running 2 straight through resonator/mufflers (similar to a Bimmerworlds system) which is suitable for track only but does sound great and sheds a lot of weight.

In MD: § 22-402. (a) Every motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine shall be equipped with an exhaust muffler system in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person may use a muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device on a motor vehicle on a highway.

However, judging from the number of cars and trucks with valvetronic exhausts if not aftermarket cutouts or factory cutouts, it’s not enforced. I don’t see how stock M5s or M3s are legal. It I don’t want to rock the boat be cuz my Z06 has a factory cutout.
