MS42 TUNING HELP 😭

Hi. Pretty new here! Myself and I'm sure many others out there have been dying to find any tunes or anything for the MS42 (preferably for a 328i with an m52b28tu.🤣) maybe with some burbles or pops, I can't find anything to play with, (the MS4X exhaust mods didn't work for me for some reason.) though I always see tuned MS42s for sale on eBay so that drives me nuts and makes me wonder where they get their info from haha! I feel like I've already been through every MS42 related forum on here as well! Somebody please come save my burning eyes, lol my research has been going on for hours almost every day for weeks now, I'm surprised there aren't more videos about tuning these cars, all of this MS41/42/43 tuning stuff really seems to be like some sort of black magic that's always kept secret, especially for the MS42. 😓

Thanks to the ones who are always spreading their knowledge to the community as much as they can!

Any help is appreciated!

Imagine the innovation if more people tuned BMW 💛

Thanks for the suggestion and quick response! MS4X is the main source that helped me get started with all of this, but it just seems like I can only get so far with the provided info, as I said I did flash their exhaust modifications off of ms4x.net on to my MS42 but I didn't really notice any crazy differences sadly.

Retard timing on trailing throttle A LOT. If all you are doing is setting the fuel cut threshold to above rpm limiter, nothing will happen on decel, but retarding timing on decel is where the pops come from. Start with -10 degrees. That's the minimum value I use for burbles, and then retard it even more for pops and bangs. If you have cats still, be aware that extreme timing retard (-20 degrees or more) makes egt's very high and may begin melting the cats after too much trailing throttle action. If you do not have cats, Id say send it and put as much timing retard as possible at higher rpms then dial it back with lower rpms. Finally for gunshots and big flames, you gotta up your fuel injection time by a lot. I run ms43, but the principles are the same. For reference I will insert the stock values for my car versus the values I run to get flames. The main changes were made in the first column were I increased injection time dramatically. Do not mess with injection timing if you still have cats and plan on keeping them. Not only will the car freak out over crazy rich post cat AFR's but your cats will either a) clog up from carbon deposits or b) melt from really hot egt's if you beat on your car like I do. That should be all the info you need to make a stout burble tune/pops and bangs tune.

What parts of the tuning are you struggling with? The tables on the MS4X wiki with ignition timing on trailing throttle is what you change to get more pops and bangs. Retard ignition on those tables kf-zwb-sa-n-tkw and kf-zwb-sa-kk-n-kbw tables for more pops and bangs. I don’t know if copying the values from the screen shot I posted is a good idea because I have a different engine than you and possibly different injector sizes and so the values I’m using might not have the same affect. You can try. Just replicate them into the part throttle warm injection tables. And raise that fuel cut threshold too. No need to mess with big ignition tables. Not sure what exactly you need help with, but I will offer what help I can

Ah see that's another weird issue of mine, is that I could never get those tables to show up for me, I assume I could be using the wrong XDF ?? Even when I tried others, I could never find the right tables, the only connection that I ever made was using the 0110C6 file and searching under the MS43 tables which is really weird. I'm probably doing something horribly wrong, aren't I? 😂
