Hello people,
I own a USB-cable for my BMW E46 year 2002, everything works fine so far incl. INPA & Co.
I will call this "Gen 1" cable in the following (because I do not know the most accurate name as everybody seems to call it differently).
Now I thought give it a try to modify the cable so that it works for the E92 year 2012.
What I found out:
My current "old" cable has PIN 7 and 8 permanently connected (soldered).
The newer BMW DCAN USB cables (I'll call this "Gen 2" cable below) seem to have PIN 7 and 8 open. I know this because there is a manual how to install a switch to make the Gen 2 cable suitable for older vehicles by connecting PIN 7 & 8 with a switch.
The question I ask myself:
Why can't it be done the other way around? I have opened my Gen 1 cable and desoldered PIN 7 and 8. Unfortunately INPA still does not recognize the E92 ... Why, where is the difference? Is the board different so that the Gen 2 cable is backward compatible but the Gen 1 cable is not forward compatible?
Thanks in advance
