Hi,

I have intermittent error lights with my 04 E46 Convertible (60k miles).
The yellow DSC light comes on along with the yellow brake light (with a beep) - and stay there.
This appears to happen randomly but mostly after driving for a variable amount of time. Turning off the car and restarting it clears it sometimes.

Pressing the DSC button does nothing.

I've not tested my ABS or DSC whilst driving due to what that would entail.

Extensive searching leads me to believe a number of things could be at fault, and the advice is to read the codes (see below). I have searched regarding these codes and am no closer to locating the exact issue.

Codes from INPA:

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, you have a yaw rate sensor implausible which means your yaw sensor could be bad. You also have some electrical errors though. The sensor could be getting a bad supply voltage, thus making its output implausible (output voltage is proportional to yaw rate). You don't want the problem to be the sensor. Try finding it and making sure all connections are good. Look for blown fuses. Is your battery old?

I just had this problem as well and my lights just went off. Is your car aligned right now? if it is not, apparently that can cause those lights to come on because as soon as i got my alignment done, the lights went away for good. if not, take it to a local shop and get them to reset the code. if it goes away, there ya have it... if not, then it could be a faulty ABS sensor or something like that. good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I feel like I'm beginning to make some progress.

I erased the codes, and while the error warning lights still come on intermittently, the only code that has come back so far is 5e20 (pressure sensor 1 electrical failure).

My steering wheel is pretty much straight, dont have any noticeable issues with the car pulling to one side or vibrating at speed. Is this enough to say that I don't need it checking?

I will look into getting the pressure sensor replaced.

Get the battery tested as well. Even though it reads good on the computer, have an auto parts store do a test for you. My battery was fine on my instrument cluster and also really old, but then I walked outside one day to find my lights on, error lights everywhere, oil service reset itself, and the key wasn't even in the ignition! I got a new battery and it all has been great. The low-voltage error and other electrical errors signal that could be a possibility; poor battery performance does very funny things to the electronics in our cars.

Yup definitely do that! Try un-pluging your battery to for like a minute (try not to get shocked!) and then plug it back in and see if it works, if not, test the battery strength! Also, did you say you have already gotten it reset? If not, take it and get the dash codes reset real quickly... takes like 10minutes for a tech to do and should be anything more then like $15-$20. If the codes come back after, then like i said before it could be faulty system or something which shouldn't be hard at all to fix. Just a quick purchase and you're on your way! Also, if your steering wheel feels straight, then no you don't need testing :) hopefully this helps out a little bit at least haha. Let me know if I can answer any other questions...

Did you ever figure this out? My ABS and DSC light comes on completely randomly and sometimes not for a long time (month+) and just today it did it and the ABS kicked in when breaking at low speed in the parking lot, but then worked fine later... baffling, just wondering if the battery fixed it or if you figured something else out, thanks!

Well it wasn't the battery I can tell you that haha. The thing that I have found from this scenario that I have gone through and u have to, is most likely a faulty sensor, setting off the DSC/ABS lights to let you know. First thing I would say to do is take it to a local shop (NOT A DEALERSHIP) and have them run a test and try clearing the codes (which shouldn't be more than like $25ish or so I think. If that does not work, then have the. Run the code with a code reader and see what comes up when you do that. It should tell you if there is something faulty setting it off or not. I don't think it's anything to pressing though or else you would definitely know it lol.

Good luck,
Austin

Problem solved ! (hopefully)

Just to update on my progress.

In the end, I went ahead and replaced the brake pressure sensor which was showing up as an electrical fault. (Bimmerfun325i you're absolutely right)

Every time I cleared the codes before, when the fault came back, it was always something to do with the brake pressure sensor. (5e20 -pressure sensor 1 electrical failure)

Initially the lights came back after 100miles or so after replacing the sensor.

Then I reset the fault codes, and thankfully the lights have not come back on over 1000 miles later.

I'm just really relieved that it wasn't a faulty ABS unit. The part I replaced was just ÂŁ20!

Hope it helps
