Will a 5 series steering wheel for 3 series?

While at the junk yard I found a M steering wheel but I'm pretty sure it was in a 01-03 5 series. I meant to take a pic but I didn't. My steering wheel is peeling horribly at the top and I really wanna get a new one. The steering wheel looks very similar to my wheel and the car wasn't an M5 so is it possible the 5 series owner swapped and M3 wheel to his car? It may be an M5 wheel but as far as I remember it looks very similar to my wheel. I just remember the 3 spokes and small round airbag really. Anyway, if it is an M5 wheel will it fit my 01 e46 and are the functions on the wheel plug and play?

I really like that radio display in that pic too. I've been thinking about pulling a radio from the junk yard too since mine has a busted screen and the volume knob doesn't work well. It's just the business head unit. Wasn't sure if the bmw's were like other factory head units where you needed a code for it to work. I guess if I can't find a code maybe I can swap out screens and volume knobs.

No. Why would I? That's a stage 2 airbag m wheel. E39 and e46 wheels are interchangeable. Thus, it works with his 2001 (stage 2 airbag) e46.

Okay, you were just responding to post #1 then.

In post #3 OP states he also wants to retrofit an E39 MID into his E46, which is definitely not doable.
