What's the difference besides the # of doors?

The difference is that the coupe is a entirely different platform than the sedan.

BMW didn't just turn a sedan into a coupe, they build a seperate platform therefore the cost is higher. Additionally the coupes come standard with more features than the sedans. You certainly can add features to the sedans BUT it won't make up for the cost of the different platform which raises the price.

If you are just talking base price there are things that are standard on the coupe that are options on the Sedan, the Sport package being one of them (which on a sedan is decent money). Then there is the split folding rear seats. Now the LED's and I am sure there are a few others I know at one time HK was standard on a 300 coupe but not a sedan.

Coupes and Sedans share no body panels.

However the most likely cause for coupes to be more expensive than sedans is because the E46 coupe currently and till the end of its product life cycle will be made in Germany and mainly in the Regensberg (?) factory. Whereas the E46 sedan is built in both Germany and South Africa. More inventory = lower cost. Simple economics of supply and demand

Chrome Exhaust tips, Chrome Window Trim, slightly more aerodynamic due to windshield being 2 degrees lower. Wider, longer, Less ride height. Sportier rear bumper with reflectors. Unmodified coupes look alot cooler than sedans. Costs more to insure since they think you driver more aggressive when you are missing 2 doors.

I was all ready to chime in with the simple economic answer to this question, but it has been done. The supply of sedans to coupes is staggeringly higher in favour of the sedan.

although this has nothing to do with overall price- another difference between the coupe and sedan, is that the coupe is slightly longer, wider, and not quite as tall.
If you check the specs you'll find that the coupes and sedans are pretty much the same size. Width and lenght, wheelbase. I'm at work now but I'll post the exact figures when I get home.

You hit the nail on the head Kevin!. Don't forget that BMW produces approximately 7 Sedans to every 1 Coupe also.

Nothing like guys in 4x4 trucks that stop at in front of my house to say how cool my car is. I dont think that happens with stock sedans. I think Red BMW coupe stands out the most in all the colors
In the 4 years I've had my car I've only seen 8 (yes, I counted) other red coupes EVER. And the only ones that are modded are mine and the editor from EuroTuner's. I've seen other's on the boards but never in the flesh.

This excludes Imola Red M3s though.

Mine is Hellrot stock coupe and it stands out like a sore thump in traffic. I went to dealers to buy a silver coupe and I saw this red hot in the lot and whaaam that was it for me. I had to have it. Red sedans look pretty hot too but not as much as coupe. I probably saw around 5 or 6 red coupes last 2 years desipite the fact that I am in cherry hill,NJ and seems like 4 out 10 cars are BMWs around here

This has been beaten to death.

Supply and demand is irrelevant...the sedan is in much greater demand, therefore it is produced more. Supply doesn't dictate demand, demand dictates supply.

The most likely primary reason is that the coupe costs more to produce. Period.
