Why are 3 series only equipped with one rear fog light?

Just wondering as to why only one rear fog light is equipped at the rear of the car?
Also are you able to just parallel up the supply from the driver's side fog light to make the redundant side work? Or is there any coding that has to be also done?
Cheers.

plural because you also have front fogs?

Prefacelift euro e46 has one fog light on the driver side. Coupe prefacelift and facelift with led tail light has double fog lights. Euro Sedan facelift has double fog lights too. For the ones who want to retrofit them it can be done and its very easy. Mine is us version and i did it one year ago

Nope, pretty certain no euro E46 had dual rear fogs. There may be space for a second fog bulb, but not on the holder side and no wiring that goes across unless someone has modified it themselves

Nope, just the one.

Many cars of the same era had only a driver's side rear fog light. tt was intentional, to combat the problem people erroneously driving with them on in rain rather than fog. They create a lot of rear dazzle in spray, which masks the effect of the (same colour, same intensity) brake light next to it. The idea was to at least keep the passenger side brake light effective. It's not a big deal in town but on a busy motorway the extra half-second warning you get that someone a dozen cars ahead has slammed on the anchors could be life-saving. EU regulation for newer cars stipulates a minimum distance between fog light and brakes lights, allowing manufacturers to enable rear fog lights on both sides again and satisfy our symmetrical OCD.
That makes sense about the spray. I remember reading an article where they showed drivers would react slower to the brakes lights coming on whilst the rear fog light was also on and that was just in normal driving. Hence why I cars didn't have 2 rear fog lights, it would just delay driver reaction even further

You can always
Okay guys as you want im not gonna argue but all i can say i see them daily on the roads with dual fog lights not only e46's i see also e53 x5 and f10 and other models..
You can always check the wiring diagrams on WDS if you don't want to believe everyone.

I was going to question whether people in Spain really drive round daily with their rear fogs on every day but when I clicked your profile it says "Lebanon". That might explain it. You won't have had European legislation spec cars there. I wouldn't know what regulation they'd have complied with. Presumably local Lebanese regulation and whatever that says, if anything, about rear fog lights.
