Which head unit do you recommend?

I am looking to finally bite the bullet and update my headunit to an aftermarket one to bring it into this decade. However, I am conflicted on which one to get.
i like the OEM look of the Eonon GA9450 but read a lot of conflicting reviews.

What headunit would you recommend that looks like the factory one I already have in my 330i for under $300?

I appreciate your help

To be honest... people do it. I love good music especially in the car. But the BMW is so fickle (and getting older) personally I just won't chance it by way of splicing wires and all.
In addition I think the existing audio set up fits my needs but keeping in mind my listening pleasure comes by way of streaming.

I put the 9" Eonon one in my car about a month ago and I'm happy with it. My only complaints so far is that you can't customize the home screen layout from the factory settings (or at least I haven't figured out how yet), my iPod doesn't support carplay & the built in google maps absolutly sucks. Eventually I plan on buying an old iPhone to use as an iPod so I can have carplay and I downloaded an awesome app called Sygic to use for nav as it works offline.

The wiring harness will be plug & play, comes with a canbus dongle so you can retain working steering wheel controls which is great. Having bluetooth is nice, sound quality is awesome & works with the OEM HK setup too. I've yet to install the backup camera I got with it but if you get the OBD2 Bluetooth scanner you can pair it with the headunit for live data such as coolant temp, speed, revs, throttle position etc which is pretty cool.

the more I think about it the more I think I might go with that one. So basically you totally recommend it?

great that it is plug and play. I have the harmon kardon as well

I also went with the avin avant 4 and really like it as well. I think it’s the best functioning and looking all around. Definitely go for the px6 version if you can. iBus app is great and wireless CarPlay works really well for me 99% of the time. Their customer support was great when I first set it up in December and have had no issues since. I recommend it

It seems like I have to take half my car apart to install this thing because I have the navigation unit... is this true?
If you have factory nav unit, that's the way it's going to be from what I've read. I recently installed a Dynavin in my car. I'm happy with it, but it was a PIA to run the wiring back to the trunk. Not rocket science, but a bit more to do than I expected. Thank God I didn't have to pay someone to do it. That probably would have been pricey. The instructions from Dynavin weren't great. Adequate, not great. Plenty of info on YouTube to assist with pulling off panels, removing seats, etc.

My Eonon died last month. It was a GA5150F. I was thinking about replacing it with a new Eonon, but then thought about all the glitchiness, buggy software and the less-than-great sound.

I ended up going with the Alpine iLX-W650. Using the Scosche mounting kit and modifying it to work with the car/HU, I am super pleased with the outcome. Sounds awesome with the stock amp and an additional RF 12" in the trunk.

This is the one I'm hoping to buy, because it has the largest screen, while still having physical knobs and buttons.
Problem is, the company, Kapud, is currently not producing them, due to a shortage of the particular size of this screen.
Has very good specs and reviews. Comes with free incorporated IGO Navigation.

Maybe if a few members here would reach out ot them with requests, they would expediate the production process. ;)

For under $300?
Well I know you can’t get into the good ones like Dynavin for that amount. Nor some of the others, especially with the features they’re promoting.

Add cost of the relocation “nav” style center console also moves the price up.

I have this one, and like it quite a bit. Makes the car feel more modern. 9" touchscreen with the DSP option. Aliexpress or Ebay are the cheapest options. Read carefully as specs can vary but look the same i.e. screen resolution, operating system. You can run all sorts of dashboard and diagnostic apps right from the head unit. Wifi, GPS, USB, LTE (mobile internet with SIM card). All the wiring and canbus interface (steering wheel control, reverse signal, etc.) are included. The screen has a lot of glare during the day, so I got an antiglare protector for a tablet, now its great.

For around $300 you can get the Eonon on sale on their website and the Dynavin bracket. The Eonon has its + and - but for the money its been more than adequate for me (so far). If you have an Android phone, you'll be familiar with it quickly. Forget about the Avin unless you're willing to pay twice the price. I do hate having to download Google updates in my car though. Just seems weird.

GA9450b owner here.

I love the screen size in my car. The major shortcoming for me is the processor and I will detail why below. If you just plan on using the unit with Headunit Reloaded 100% of the time then the Eonon should be fine. If you want the option of using the headunit's apps then
I would recommend buying a model which has px5 or px6 processor in it such as this model Xtrons PQ9046BL on Amazon:

As others have stated you are locked into the Eonon UI unless you change launchers. I've done this, but I'm not 100% pleased with the results yet. With the stock UI and with other launchers I've had issues with slowness, google assistant / voice recognition doesn't work at all for me and I've also had to re-login to apps such as spotify and waze because all of a sudden their settings got wiped for no apparent reason.

I feel like I could overcome these short comings with a custom rom, however with the AC8227L based models their doesn't appear to be much on XDA. I've even gone so far as to start a thread on XDA on the GA9450b model here:
I'm considering copying over the content here since the GA9450b is a BMW specific model.

With the PX5 and PX6 based models there appears to be a few custom roms available such as Hal9k and the Malaysk rom.
