What do you think about this M3 CSL Hartge?

Should I buy this car? Please help.

This M3 CSL Hartge was built by Hartge in 2003 and has Hartge VIN-nr so it's registered as a Hartge.

It's my understanding that Hartge modified this M3 with parts taken from an M3 CSL that was heavily modified with a different engine. So this car has basically the "best" from both M3 CSL and M3. M3 CSL on the outside and under hood but inside it looks like an M3 with all the comfort details (leather seats, navi pro etc).

All the exterior is OEM CSL parts (hood, bumpers, sideskirts, roof etc) except for the rear window which is M3. The interior is regular M3 except for the CSL steering wheel. Suspension is CSL.

The ecu software is tuned by Hartage though. The flap in the CSL airbox is removed. Top speed is said to be 309km/h so it might have a little more top end power but on the paper it says 360 hp. The exhaust is Hartge. Standard wheels are Hartge 20". The fenders are rolled.

- So here's the thing... how much do you think this car is worth comparing to regular M3 and M3 CSL? How much would you value the mods which is not a rebuild but built from the ground by Hartge. The car has never been sold on the open market before so it's difficult to tell what the price should be. Somewhere between an m3 and a M3 CSL?

Both M3 and M3 CSL is extremely expensive here in Norway. You wouldn't believe it. You can get a brand new M3 for less in the US. BTW, Im not considering a regular CSL.

Estoril blue, looks very nice with the carbon fiber details.

No, this is not the Hartge CSL with M5 engine. This car is the only one in the world built like this by Hartge.
It was not built for open market sale.. I dont know the whole story.
Anyways, this obviously make it an attractiv and costly M3 but it's still not an M3 CSL!

The question is how much do you think I should value this car compared to M3 vs M3 CSL?
I.e let's say IF it was worth 50.000 USD as an M3 and 80.000 USD if it was an M3 CSL....

Btw the car is owned by entusiasts.. 62.000 km.

With the week dollar and the strong Norwegian Krones (NOK) an M3 E46 cost about 110.000-125.000 USD.
Demanding price on this particular car is 147.000 USD, I think I would get it for 140.000 USD.
Not sure about M3 CSL. I have seen one that is 100% with only 10.000 km on it, he wants 190.000 USD.
The new 08 M3 cost about 250.000 USD and upwards. So pretty hard to compare prices with US/Europe.

Unique cars like this is really hard to gauge. Sometime if comes down to what it's worth to you. How I see this is basically an standard E46 M3 modified very tastefully. WIth that, what's it worth to you? Also, the true CSL should hold it's value longer. Either way, very nice car.

Thanks, I really appreciate your personal opinions about how you see this car.

I guess some people will think the car is more like a CSL while others see it as a tastefully modded M3 which I do agree it is.

On the other hand it is an M3 Hartge, so it is uniqe and special. Have to go through Hartge with the Hartge vin-nr to order
CSL-parts though, as you need a CSL vin-nr to get CSL parts from BMW. The seller said it's not more expensive and the delivery
is just as fast.

Do you guys know how expensive csl pars are comparing to M3? Break discs etc..

I could buy an M3 for much less and just get the CSL airbox which is expensive but much cheeper than this car.
I allready have an OEM CSL trunk though. I will most likely end up with a carbon black M3 which is a great color,
but I would prefear the Estoril blue. The M3 Hartge also comes with 19" BBS CH winter rims (worth aprox 6k USD).

Well, it's probably worth an extra 20k if I don't loose it all when I sell it.

Sounds like having a factory CSL isn't a big deal to you. So perhaps you can just gauge it this way, how do you value Hartge's additions? Then with that price difference, can you do the same yourself to a stock M3?

For us over here, we don't quite have an equalvalent.. Dinan is the closest but not quite the same level as Hartge. CSL are much respected here.. so that's why I would go CSL route.. at the same time, it's not my money..

Thanks again.

I really don't know.

Even though he prefers selling it to a true bmw entusiast I suspect some guy with too much money in his wallet will buy it for a stiff price.
I don't think it's worth the demanding price but if I could get it for less then comparing this car to all the mods I would do with a regular
M3 it might keep the value better in the end. That being said I need to borrow a lot of money to get the Hartge CSL unless I sell my
apartment, haha...which I am going to do anyways but I was suppose to save that money for later :p

All the mods I would do to an M3 will cost around $20k for rims, adjustable coilovers, CSL trunk, CSL airbox, LED lights, CSL diffusor, CSL splitters, air duct covers, exhaust (need that for the M3 Hartge as well though) and so on.

I have to think this through.

I'm not sure, CSL is extremely rare in Norway. There are maybe two of them.
I think they may be worth another $40 over M3 or even more since they stay in the garage 97% of the time so they are low milage. There is one CSL with 10k km for sale now @ $190000 (keep in mind the new M3 cost around $270000 +/-). I wouldn't give more than $120000 for a mint M3.

I didn't understand the part you where talking about the M-track button..
You mean this car don't have M track mode?
I know it has Sport button in the dash and the S6 for the smg which affect the suspension stiffness though.
