I'm looking for the BMW OEM Fire Extinguisher that mounts under the drivers seat for out cars. They are hard to come by and prices are hitting upwards up $300 on fleaBay. Does anyone know of alternative sources for finding these? Luckily I had bought one for the E46 back in 2004 and still have it in that car but I want to add one to my X5. :dunno:

Nice install. I have the Gloria model under my drivers seat and really like it. But at the price of these things now, I would second guess using it to help a fellow motorist on the road that had fire and I could help. I should add another basic extinguisher for that purpose. I like where you mounted yours.

For those interested:

The Gloria fire extinguisher (72 60 0 140 504) is for the Mini R50 and R53 and is an exact match to the BMW 72 60 0 000 335 except for the Mini logo on the bottle. I bought it for $67.41 USD from a German fleaBay seller but these may be available stateside. I already had one in my E46 I bought in 2005 but wanted another for my E53 but they are just so hard to come by now if you are searching the 72 60 0 000 335 part number. (Almost non-existent) I had to wait weeks for delivery but in the end it was worth the wait. Sure beats the $300 ones for sale on fleaBay.

I also thought of a fire extinguisher also, but my Toyota 4runner has a under the hood liner that is designed to act as a extinguisher, so I bought a hood (for $150.00) that had the liner and cut it down to size and placed it under the BMW hood (replaced the orig BMW insulation) so I feel confident in case of fire this insulation will disintegrate into a fire preventive solution and dose the fire....as a back up I have a "Kidde" portable fire extinguisher ($20.00) under the front pass seat.

I dunno about that one. I've seen many debunk that as a myth. Seems to be just for sound deadening purposes. Anything hot enough to catch that on fire will simply catch the fuel lines and plastic on the engine bay on fire first. Besides we've seen plenty of E46s go up in flames, particularly from the engine bay.

Here's a test someone did where they cut E46 hood insulation and lit it on fire and it burns like nothing.
