Hey so I want to turn my 330 into a rally/ safari car and want to run bigger tires, I currently have 205/45/17s on but I want to run 225/55/17s anyone try this before?

Hardmotorsport built a safari style 330, check out that build

AC Schnitzer did an Xi back in the day too if you can find the specs on that one
I watched that whole video, that was kind of painful to watch. The start of the build with him crossthreading a wheel bolt, then dude just packed the entire inside of a fender with caulk for some reason? What on earth for? They have a welder and were filling in the gaps then just got out the ol' caulk gun and went ham. I'm all for a rally car but that poor thing didn't deserve that.

So, I watched part two and it really didn't get better nor did it look graceful offroad. That car is not long for this world at all.

So if you were going to do it there are better ways and the correct tools. Firstly before yoy go twisting a chassis like that, subframe reinforcements at minimum would be a must. A reinforcement of the strut mounts would also be in order. Being rwd a locker of some kind in the rear would be crucial as well, if you watch their second video you can see the car getting hung up constantly due to the open differential.

As far as tires are concerned, you can check how large you can clear before cutting yourself with a tape measure. Turn the wheels to full lock both directions and use a tape measure to see how much room you have. Then do the same with the suspension unloaded, and then at full compression at all 4 corners. Be sure to measure at the inside edge of the tire and the outside. Take the smallest measurement and multiply by two, and add it to the current diameter of your tires to get your max diameter. If you are going to cut, you can take the same measurements but factor in how much room each cut would add. The rest is just how skilled you are with body work.

Lift wise I'm not sure how high you can go before it will no longer align camber properly. Mabey an inch?

googled 'e46 lift kit'

basically youre just going to add spacers to the strut mounts, rear shock mount, and spring pad
you might be able to mix and match e83 rear springs/arms, wagon spring, etc to get more lift.

yes, rear spring pads:
5mm # 33 53 1 136 385
7.5mm # 33 53 1 136 386
9mm # 33 53 1 127 224
10mm # 33 53 1 136 387
14.5mm #33 53 1 094 754

also, e90 strut spacer ~20mm

or a generic spacer (30mm)

Well, that contributes significantly to you getting stuck, then. With RWD in a winter climate, you should install dedicated winter tires if you expect to remain mobile in snow deep enough where a lift would come into play. Lifting the car, on the other hand, will destroy the car's handling 100% of the time you drive, for a benefit you will need only .0001% of the time, and cost more.

Hi I know i already made a discussion about this but I want to Safari my 2003 bmw 330i. I know it’s rear wheel drive but idc it makes for more fun and pisses people off, but I don’t know what I am doing cause there is no videos except for one channel and I didn’t really like the way they did it and they gave no information about how they did it. There are no lift kits out there except for suspension spacers and so I thought I could just take all the suspension parts off a x5 or x3 and just slap them on to the e46 but I don’t know how to do that or where to start and there ain’t nothing about anyone doing that so I don’t know what I am gonna do. I also can’t find any actual wide body kits for the e46 and the wheels I want to put on the car are 255/55/17or 18s so idk asking for ideas plz🙏
