Evening,

I’am in the market for a new head unit, the Avin avant 4 has been mentioned as there isn’t much choice for an oem e46 style head unit..

I’ve just read about the dynavin n7 which I didn’t know about!

1* This has probably been asked but as some of you may off had your head units for a while now, what are they like to live with the Avin avant 4 are they reliable.

2* I’ve seen on there website that you can order the spec you want. Is it that the better you spec the more reliable it becomes?

3* I really like the look of the Avin avant 4 I just want it to be reliable as I’am a uk customer.

any help or reviews of mentioned head units would be great.
Cheers

I’m no car audiophile but here are my thoughts
I’ve had mine (px6 model) for almost 2 years and the only issue Ive had is sometimes the Bluetooth won’t connect right away. Otherwise it’s been problem free and when I had issues updating the software at first, customer support was pretty helpful.
I saw here someone returned there’s because the volume knobs feel flimsy and I would agree, they are- but not flimsy enough to fall off or anything (they just wiggle a bit).
I enjoy the ibus app and CarPlay will usually boot right up when you turn on the car (if your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is on).
Overall I’m satisfied with the unit
My main reasons for buying were the oem look and ibus app/ carplay in one package.
I recommend the px6 model

I've seen some really good (long) threads on the Avant 4 here before. I've had mine for 2 years and really like it. Sometimes little things are finicky but overall it does CarPlay quite well and that's what I'm using 100% of the time I'm on the road. I got an HVAC relocation bracket with USB ports on it (for the first year I didn't bother with a relocation bracket) because occasionally the black wireless CarPlay dongle stops working and then a quick unplug and reconnect it and it works again, much easier this way than when it was hidden behind the radio. I disconnected the steering wheel control wires from the CANbus module because it would open default apps that I didn't want and I didn't see a way to reconfigure them. The iBus app lets me assign apps to the steering wheel controls. The only thing I use the CANbus module for is to auto-dim the display when the headlights turn on. Unfortunately the iBus app usually won't start up automatically each time I start the car so I have to manually open it for my steering wheel controls to work. I also have a PX6 model.

I have had an Avant 4 for about two years as well. For a long time I had a launcher on it and it created a lot of problems. A few months ago I did a factory reset and uninstalled the launcher - it has been much more reliable since then. Sometimes it will take quite a while to boot/load.
The unit enhances the factory speakers quite a bit. Recently installed the bavsound stage 1 kit and it’s even better.
Overall I recommend it. It gets high marks for aesthetics because I think of all the similar systems it looks the most like a factory unit. The touch screen works well and Bluetooth generally connects automatically and without issue. My complaints are 1) the knobs could be higher quality - they aren’t as sturdy or nice as the oem headunit, 2) sometimes the unit takes a while to boot up - haven’t figured out why, 3) I generally don’t like the aesthetic of the launchers the unit comes with but I don’t recommend installing your own. If you have apple CarPlay then it’s maybe less of an issue.

Agreed. The launchers are meh (I like the dark grey one with the vintage radio symbol for the radio- I think it’s #2 or 3) but you only see the launcher when changing apps. Mine is always in CarPlay or ibus app so it doesn’t really matter.

I installed my Avant 4 px6 in summer of 2021 and I have been satisfied with my purchase. I spent extra for certain upgrades that I believed were worth it. Carplay is pretty convenient and the controls for music are pretty great when paired with the Bavsound Stage 1 kit (as previously mentioned) which I found in a e46 in a scrapyard for a total of $36. I thought a set of harman kardon speakers would be a decent upgrade from the stock speakers but it was no comparison to leap in quality from Bavsound imo. Looks very oem plus which was a big selling point for me.

Evening,

I’ve just read about the dynavin n7 which I didn’t know about!

I have a Dynavin N7 Pro which I love. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would not have chimed in. I love the OEM look and the ease of use. The Apple Car Play/Android Auto is not wireless, but that doesn't bother me because it charges my phone as it's used. The bluetooth, boot time, and launcher have been no issue as with the Avins. I love the fact that I can load radio station logos onto the default radio station screen (even though I usually use XM and hardly use the radio),

as well as put in my own boot screen.

The boot time is minimal, but it's still cool to see.

I think that if I were to do the decision over again I would go for the dynavin n7. The avant 4 is pretty good and I am generally happy with it after two years, but I hear basically zero complaints from dynavin owners.
