Hi, first i want to apologize for my poor english and for this thread if is in wrong section :eeps:

I have a problem with my NCS Expert, when i choosed ZCS/FA F.ECU (F3) it poped up a window with chassis, i picked E46 chassis, then it ask to choose ECU (AKMB, ALSZ, EWS, KMB). Whatever i pick it brings me error

VIN is faulty

COAPI -1081: GM key is invalid FFFFFF20I
COAPI -1080: Coding key invalid FFFFFF20FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFEFFFFFFFFFFF
COAPI - 1080: Coding key invalid
COAPI - 1000: Error

im using NCS v4.0.1

Steps i made in NCS

Check INPA for connectivity>NCS.exe>Load profile "NCS dummy profile">VIN/ZCS/FA (F1)>ZCS/FA F.ECU (F3)

INPA works fine, i can read modules without errors so i think my K+Dcan cabel is configurated properly.

Hope you will have an answer for this error from deepest hell because i cant find solution even on google.

What year is your car? After a specific year, BMW stopped using ZCS, but rather they use FA. So, at the image, press F2 instead of F3.

 

I did what you said, i selected F2, entered my VIN and then it pooped up this window. This guy has options such #0903, $168.... chasis e46 etc. But i had this windows all blank, there was nothing.

Then i experimentali add chassis e46, and add feature $168 (Yes you're right, i have no idea what im doing... ) then i clicked OK aand this error has ocurred.

Pin 7 and 8 on your cable must be soldered or connected. Check that 1st.

thank you for your replyes guys! My car year is 2003 facelift and i will try F2. And yes i have connected pin 7 & 8 together. Thank you i will try that F2.

 

I also had errors with Armenh7
sp daten files. Had to find some in a torrent website then the errors stopped.
But Armenh7 is still the man with the master plan.

Thanks haha. Which sp-datens did you have errors with? The first set did have errors with the E46, but I reuploaded it and fixed it.
I've been using "my" sp-datens for coding and they work fine.

 

What position is your key in when you try to use ncs-expert?

well i think this is end of ours ideas whats wrong whit it, i will try some more things like that widnows xp, trying on diferent car etc. but i want to really thank you for your effort helping me !

 

Try it on a different car and see if it works. If it doesn't, you cable might be faulty. For one last time, try redownloading the software to make sure you didn't get a bad copy.

 

So... i tryed new installation on new windows xp, your software, your driver and other usb port on notebook and still same errors, nevermind.

 

Then it's most likely your cable. Have you tried on another car if you could?

I found out why I get the VIN error. I had a short circuit in the instrument cluster, which damaged the gm key. Because of that the gm key returned value fffff20i. After the instrument cluster replacement, ncs works as expected.

I'm having the same issue, even after the cluster was replaced. Peter, did you have the cluster coded at the dealer?

 

did you ever get this figured out ? dealing with a similar issue , trying to figure out if it could be my cluster causing the issue or another module. would attach pics of my "vin is faulty" error but cant get the photo on here.
any help would be appreciated, thanks.
