I bought an e46 M3 with navi today. Everything was working fine until I decided to check out the navigation. After the navigation started all the sound stopped and the radio will not turn on (no matter which button I push on the head unit).

Any ideas?

Here comes the problem: A few weeks ago I notice that while I'm driving and listening to music (Radio or CD player) the sound goes out for period of time; sometimes a few seconds and other times 3 or 5 minutes, and when it goes out it makes a pooping noise (not always tho). At first I taught it only happen during bumps but that is not the case; it happens during flat surfaces too.
This AM the radio look like if it was off, I was not able to control the volume or the stations but I was able to listen to the radio.(but not able to control it). The GPS controls and the computer controls work normal during this issue except the radio/cd player controls. The biggest problem was that when I turn off my car the radio was still on even without the key inserted (never seen that before in my car). I then decided to remove one of the radio fuses from my glove box, at this point the radio went off. I then inserted the fuse again and there is a loud humming sound. I have decided to keep the fuse out being afraid of draining my battery. What should I do?? any suggestions?? What could the problem be??

Thank you all!!

I doubt it's the ground to the Radio. The BM54 Unit (Radio) is actually located in the driver side trunk, right under the Nav computer and next to the factory amp. If there's a problem with the radio, it would be completely separate from the Nav unit as the Nav unit simply speaks to the radio over the cars IBus network to control it, no direct connection exists.

What I would do if I were you is go to the trunk, pull the driver side rear trunk light, pull the rug out and start looking at the connections and wiring going into the Radio, nav unit and amp as there may be something loose or frayed. I would also remove the wiring harness from the BM54 and let it sit powerless for a few minutes then reattach the harness.
