I'm thinking of getting a new muffler put on my 328i for sound purposes. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't want anything too noisy or obnoxious because it just looks and sounds dumb on a sedan, but any good ones out there just to give a sporty rumble or enhance that straight 6?

I think the Dinan one on my car is a Flowmaster- it's deep, without being raspy, on an otherwise stock exhaust.

Flowmasters are very durable, and while not light, about 30 lbs lighter than stock.

I wouldn't put an aftermarket muffler on my car- and yet, I don't want to take this one off.

think a very popular aftermarket one easy to do was the Magnaflow. people also like to put the muffler off the 330zhp on. as a heads-up your 328 will have a single inlet unlike 325/330 dual inlet

Magnaflow 14862 is popular because it's single inlet 2.25in and double outlet 3in which fits under stock bumper and M-Technic 2 exhaust cutout. You will need some piping and exhaust hangers fabricated by you or the exhaust shop. You can buy them in pre-made E46 kits but then the price rises to ~$500, this is how it looks like to give you an idea what universal parts you will have to collect:

Eisenmann B5246.00700 sport or race muffler for 323/328 E46 is extremely popular. Priced around $800 by IND and other USA distributors.

Scorpion SBMB052 is around $400. I often saw some UK people on WV forums mock Scorpion exhausts. But owners of BMW's bastard children 323/328 can't be choosers.

I will mention TSE3 though it's not for 328 but because it's probably the best regarded E46 exhaust of all time. It's ~$900 and you need a Y-pipe to convert from single inlet to dual inlet.

I won't show you any more. Depending on your budget you may be thinking now are these people insane? You could buy a universal stainless free-flow muffler for 1/5th the price of these...
