M54 fuel rail leaking

Hi, I pulled my fuel rail in the process of removing my intake manifold to more easily change the CCV plumbing. When the rail came off, the injectors stayed in the manifold. I reinstalled the fuel rail, pushing down hard over the injectors and taking care to make sure the rail/injector clips were properly fastened. When I attempted to start the car, cyls 1-5 had gas seeping from the connections, and 6 was spraying fuel from under the bell connection. Took it all apart and tried it again, with the same result, :banghead: except that 4 didn't leak again.

What am I missing? Does it matter which side of the injector the connecting clip is inserted? There were no problems with the rail or injectors before I started this project. Any help is appreciated!

Go the local auto part store and buy new injector O-rings, you WILL need these. The original O-rings will be hard and deformed and will not easily compress and expand back to properly seal against the inside of the fuel rail.

Install new injector O-rings, best to install new O-ring on both ends.

Then use Vaseline or something to lube the O-rings before installing the fuel rail.

Any YES it does matter how the injector clips are installed, they need to be below the injector O-ring which means the fuel rail is FULLY seated.
