Now that you speak of this, My friend has a had a problem with his E46 ever since buying it, He cannot roll up the windows using the key, However I can they are both Aus Cars so do you know if its a programmable setting at the dealer ?

Also reading the manual does explain several features that people 'discover' much later on their own.

 

I did happen to know about this and find it very useful, but on my 330 Coupe holding down unlock opens all the windows including the rears but holidng down lock only shuts the fronts! Anyone have this problem? Mine is a UK car

 

Mine does this.. ou can probably get this function reprogrammed by BMW though

i can roll all of my windows down, but i cant get anything to roll up! so i am guessing there is a difference between us spek and euro spec bmw's.

 

Windows can go up via remote ala iWindows.

 

lol, you can still buy an iWindows module? I'd never trust something like that to roll my windows up...

 

does this apply to pre-facelifts??

 

lol i found out you can do the window trick by watching the cd-rom that came with the car.
things i didnt know my E46 was capable of:

• trunk- release button under the lid (took me 1 yr to discover it)

• Sports Drive mode- took me like a yr untill some mentioned that we (auto tranys) have 3 options of driving the car)

• alarm- didnt know it came with a motion sensor so you can leave your windows down

• steering wheel- i didnt know you can push/pull the entire wheel to increase/decrease the depth (discovered it 2 weeks ago)

• rear seats- didnt know it wont fold down unless you pay extra

• vents- Didn’t know you had to manually turn dial to make air come out cold or hot – didn’t take long to discover that one

reading my manual pre facelift E46's don't do the windows with the remote (not 323 or 328's anyway)

but it says I should be able to put them up and down holding the key in the door at full lock and unlock...will try it later....

 

Really? My MY1999 328i does the window thing with the remote...

 

First thing i did was watch that vhs supplied with the BMW. I learned a lot from that.

 

:werd: If people actually watched the VHS/DVD or, god forbid read, the owner's manual we'd all know the fuctions of our car.

 

I found out the hard way. I came out of the pool hall and all of my windows were down! OOOOOOOoops! But nothing was taken.

 

hey TX, it could just be a flaw on my car, but my manual says it applies to the 323 and 328 and doesn't mention anything about the remote working and it def doesn't on mine.

I tried with the key IN the door, that works, but only down, not up, it SHOULD do up too ;(

However my button to lock the windows (so the buttons will not work) does not work either, so maybe my wiring is f'ed up somewhere.

I can live with just having the down....

 

Agreed, BUT please don't all continue to assume that we all even GOT the manual or a CD with the car!

Not all of us can buy new, and/or from the dealer.

I only got my manual by downloading it online.

 

Let me add one more... Stick you arm out your window and hit the auto up feature. Let your arm get caught... It's a fun way to scare people!

 

nah it was the lock button I tried, NADA!

ok...mine DOES work off the remote to put windows DOWN (I didn't think it mattered if u tried when locked or unlocked but it does), but neither the key fob, nor having the key in the door will put them up

 

I can drop the top and all windows and put it back up from the key.....

 

I can program US spec cars to roll up window with remote, using the factory programing.

 

Didn't know until a friend showed me.
