Anyone running the above ratios for street use. I'm looking into upgrading on my 05 SMG Convertible, but I don't want to do this and hate/regret it. Also, no track use. Just fun spirited driving.

I've been running 4.10 gears in my '01 M3 coupe for about 10 years now. I think it really wakes the car up - but the downside is more revs on the highway so that plus more noise (revs). My car is a track and fun drive car, so I love it. If you are doing a lot of commuting or long drives - you might get tired of it. It will certainly help offset the added weight of the convertible from acceleration standpoint. To get a feel for it cruising around - only drive in 5th gear to see if the added revs are annoying or not. My diff is from Diffs On Line and was built with REM finish gears. Good luck!

///Motorsport 4.10 gears here also.
manual coupe. had it for some 12 years now. agreed, love it. but everyone isn’t the same for preference, it will raise your revs some. just calculate 13% more than what you’re doing now at any given speed.

Lurker here for the vert action... let me test a theory here.

When I'm on the freeway, top down (so drone is never an issue, neither is noise) at 80mph if I want to move, I double down from 6 to 4, into 5 at maybe 95, into 6 when I'm in the clear. This is all with DSC off and Sport on for maximum output (my other cars are more powerful, so I'm looking for some pull in this one).

With 4:10 in that same scenario, it seems like folks are saying I'd need only go to 5 at 80mph, then back to 6 at 95/100. Am I reading that correctly?

I'm leaning 3.91 just being conservative, but that seems like it would still be a double down shift, which I don't really mind because I love the sound and feel of this one from 4500rpm up.

I find in a lot of cases I don't even have to shift down on the highway unless I'm playing with someone else :) What I remember my top speeds in gears are something like this: 1st - 30, 2nd - 60, 4rd - 90, 4th - 120, 5th - 150 & 6th - theoretically 180, but my guess is something closer to 165+/-. If you are keeping your engine, exhaust, intake and tune stock - then the general consensus is to go with 4.10's. If you full up with cams, tune, intake and exhaust - then stay stock and if you are in between then perhaps 3.91.

I've got tune, headers, CSL intake and I'm still happy with my 4.10's as I like the more track ready feel of the car. With the heavier 'Vert - I think you would benefit more with the 4.10's. A buddy with Z4M coupe came and drove my car and decided to upgrade to 4.10's for his car too.

If you are doing a lot of long distance driving then perhaps just go with the 3.91's.

Right... and if you're preserving the flexibility for all of these options, 3.91, is where I end up on all of this.
