I know it is only $35/year to join, but is it good for anything to be a member??
I am going to be looking to do a driving/racing school at some point, and I figure that it would be worth it for that alone.

Any input??

Like shinobi said... it's worth it just for roundel... but I have already paid for mine in savings on BMW parts...

What is this about autocrossing... (I want to get into autocross but I don't know where to begin... I'm afraid of being a newb otherwise I'd go with BMWERKEN) I don't see this as Hijacking since he wants to know how the CCA benefits him, and you said autocross is one of those ways...

Also, being a member of the BMWCCA also entitles you to special rebates if you've been a member for at least a year. If you're looking to buy a new BMW about a year from now, join the BMWCCA now so you can cash in after a year.

Oh yeah, the discounts and Roundel are both good too.

Tischer BMW in Silver Spring, MD gives 20% off discount.
Another benefit, if you live in Maryland, you can get BMW CCA tags.
Each local chapter organizes events, such as tours of facilities, drives, go-kart racing, etc.

The way I see it, I pay for the magazine and get all the other benefits as a bonus.

I believe it's 20% off on all parts + accessories. Buying a set of wheels with 20% off is quite a savings, and there's ur $35 return right there!

One other added bonus (at least for the boston chapter) is the organized events, ie Six Flags trip that was organized last year. I think members pay $15/person, includes parking + launch buffet (Which was VERY good).

Most dealers will give you a discount on parts.. i stress most.. because I've been to one that didn't..

Also if you plan on attending autox i know the NY chapter gives you a discount on the entrance fee if your a member... i think its 20 if your a member and 30 if your not.. so if you attend all the autox of the season you make you money back..

And as for the person saying they want to autox but are affraid of being a NEWB.. don't worry about it... i had the same fears the first event i showed up at.. everyone was extreemly nice and helpfull giving pointers and tips.. plus they should have a novice walk thru with an instructor to give you a heads up on what to expect.. etc.

so anyone out there who wants to experience what their bmw was truely designed for should definetly attened an autox.. its the most fun you'll have in your car.. I went once.. and i haven't missed one since..

Worth it for the magazine alone, which is among the better BMW magazines available today.

About autocrossing - everybody's a newb at some point. :)

I ran my first three events on really crappy stock all season tires and did just fine. You'll probably do better than you think, especially after your first 2 or 3 runs.

It's totally worth the money. I am going to my first car control clinic this weekend for $70.00 including lunch. How else can you get that sort of deal for that little money? Not to mention the cash back on a new car is very lucrative. The 3 series gets the least at $500.00 but others can get up to $1500.00.

Well you are in luck if you are interested in autoxing :)

There are many many events held by different organizations. SCCA (SF region and Sacramento region), American AutoX series, and BMWCCA.

The first SCCA SF region autox was last sunday at Oakland colisium. It was a bit wet but still fun. However to participate at the SF region you have to be a memeber of SCCA and you can't sign up at the event.

The first SCCA Sacramento region event is in April (it will be held at Stockton). At the Stockton events you don't have to be a member of SCCA to run and you can sign up at the event.

BMWCCA hasn't put up the schedules yet but I met the person who will be in charge of organizing the autox events and he said they are finalizing the schedule.

American autox series I've never attended but from what I understand they are very fast course and very exciting events.

So if you have SCCA membership, you'll have close to 60events available throughout the year :) (SF Region runs two rounds each year)

Membership cost is only $35 for one year, $67 for two years, or $99 for three years! Delivery of Roundel by first class mail is an additional $30.00 per year and air mail (outside North America) is an additional $75.00 per year.

does this mean you have to pay extra for roundel??
No, only if you want first class delivery (magazine would come in a large shipping envelope).
