BMW E46 Convertible roof not working!

hi all

Have a 2000 Bmw e46 325 convertible and all was well until on one gloomy day managed to get myself tangled into some trouble, a lady (ahhhhhhhhhhhh, F*****g hate female drivers) drove into the back of me. Ever since this, the roof screwed up, damage was on the side of the pump also at the rear which is just my luck.

Too scared to send it to BMW dealers as they charge ridiculous amounts by the second!

Once i press the release button on the centre console an amber light greets me, but after applying a little light D.I.Y, myself, i get a constant red light flashing at me which to be honest scares me more.

Has anyone had that problem before and if so HELPPPPP.

I dont know how to manually open the roof
I dont know why theres now a flashing red light in place of the constant amber one
I dont know if the sensors are screwed
I dont know if the boot has anything to do with this problem as after the accident the roof takes some gentle persuasion to close or else according the dash board, the roof remains open.
I dont know if the hydraulic pump is in action
I dont know how to manualy release the roof from underneath the rear seats

Any assistance would greatly be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Have you tried opening and closing the extension door...? It's the handle you see in the trunk (boot), you pull it to unlatch it and then swing it for extra space when the top is up. If the sensor thinks it's open, it will not let you open the top...

If not, are there no independent mechanics who work on convertible tops and/or BMWs in the UK..?

Good luck m8t

on my conv. if the red light keep blinking it means the room is niether fully opened or closed. the only time when u should see that is obviously during openning or closing. but umm when it comes to an amber light i have no idea i dont know if its different cuz i have an 04 but either way warning lights are bad. u might just have to suck it up and go to bmw.............but wait why are you worried.... SOMEONE HIT YOU. IE. AN ACCIDENT. HER INSURANCE SHOULD COVER IT. i know thats how it works here im not sure about the UK
