I'm wanting to go Mobil 1 5w30 because its so much cheaper than 0w40, but I'm scared lol. I've been with 0w40 since I got the car!

5/30 okay depending on type.

OP...go to search/advanced search/type 'approved oils' into keyword search...then select titles only...you'll find a list of 40-50 oils. Chose one of those.

I'm sorry, but not liking the m1 0/40 as I blame it for my sudden loss of a qt. of oil coz of changed viscosities...and won't use m1 5/30 coz I used that by mistake for 30K miles or more...search me and m1 5w/30 if you want to experience my worst fanatic's experience ever.

Next, I'm thinking of trying one of the few 5/40s next.

Everyone is so nice today, and nobody brought up the 'search' word!

Mobil 1 0W40 here, has worked just fine.

Oh ...

Really? Just stocked up on M1 0W40 at $5.79/qt when Napa had it on sale.

You think an Italian oil is okay in the car? I'm thinking of agip...elf is from where?

Also, you can see my car is green, fern green...you think that makes a difference what oil I use? Thought I'd read something about that...

I don't think the weights or frankly the viscosity numbers matter much at all...or whatever the hell those other odd specs are...the A3/B4...I doubt they matter at all...but I think what does matter is what country of origin the oil is from...and maybe the color of your car.

And you thought you knew it all.

I'll have to check that out. Thx

Got to go with your gut! FYI, I actually did read of someone reporting a uoa that indicated a drop in m1 0/40s viscosity...which then rose again later. Weirds me out that an oil could do that...though I suppose it's as likely that the uoa got messed up.

I also wonder whether there's any benefit to changing weights periodically anyway, just to keep her on her toes, distribute wear around more evenly or something. Is that crazy?
