What is the purpose of that foam price. The one on my car was shredded and dusty beyond belief. So I just pulled it out and threw it away. The only purpose that I can imagine is to prevent any rattle between that tiny intake scoop and where it wedges in between the headlight andthe expansion tank. Can't imagine it serving any other purpose.

 

My guess is also that it is just to prevent vibration.

The whole part is only $7 to $9 depending on where you buy it. Next time I am ordering something else, I may add one to my parts order and change it out the next time I have to pull the air filter box. Probably not worth the cost of shipping to order it separately and certainly not the inflated prices that my nearby dealer would charge for it.

 

I just paid $8 for an o-ring the size of my pinky at the stealership.

 

I replaced that foam/plastic piece. Original foam part was all rotted away by about 100k or less. Not worth ordering alone but as a rider when placing another order.

 

I was wondering about that a few months ago but never bothered to search for it, so thanks for the part number.

However, I'm temporarily running my stock intake again and just tossed the foam since it was torn up. Doesn't make a difference with it gone from what I've observed. There is no rattle either at idle or under load, and as long as the bolts holding the intake are tight and the clips for the air inlet aren't damaged, I don't see an issue driving without it.

 

I've been driving without that sponge for a few months. The old one was completely falling apart.

 

I just bought a new piece and scanned in the foam. It's 15mm thick. Just cut it to this template and you've got a brand new replica part. Just don't let the judges at the Concours know it's homemade.

 

Pretty handy, thank you. Nice thing about the template is that anyone can use a denser material for insulation now.
