Before I bought my Z, I was deadset on getting a 330ci..but once I saw the Z and had a opportunity to drive it I was in love! So I purchased it and now 3years later...i'm ready to part ways with it. IF my Z didn’t have problems I’d KEEP IT….but the thing is I don’t have an extended warranty...and I have all these problems:

Window Issue..both of them are broken ($1000)
Trunk Issue #1 ($200+)
Trunk Issue #2($200+)
Broken Door Handle ($200+)
A\C Vent is broken ($100+)
My FOURTH brake job is coming up ($200)
One of my 20’s is bent ($300)

Plus I’m tired of the bumpy ride…and a $700 shock upgrade would fix that….but there are OTHER things wrong with the car that need to be fixed first. To me, is not going backwards, my car is a lemon….not a Z in perfect, or even GOOD condition. Of course if it was perfect….this wouldn’t even be an issue…lol...so what are some of your thoughts!

z's are crappy cars. Thats my thought. They definately are fast, but the quality is crap. The interior is so cheap on them. I always felt like I could crack the whole dash with one swift blow to it. Its all plasticy and stuff. I wouldn't mind having one in convertible maybe if it was a second car to play around with, but a 330ci is much better of a car. Just my two cents...

The BMW is a BMW, its no where near as fast as the Z but it is much more refined. The 330 is not slow by any stretch, but a 350z will definitly outrun it. I love my 330, i would never trade it for a Z or G35c.

It sucks you are getting rid of such a nice brickyard, such a rare color! I had a modified daytona blue track edition for a year or so. I definitely wouldn't have kept it after the warranty was up though. I had the tire feathering, window grease, map pocket door, rear trunk, and gas door issue all taken care of under warranty. I liked the car and it was a lot of fun on the track, but I just never got used to the crappy interior. I just picked up a 2000 323ci and although it has NOWHERE near the power of the Z the build quality is leaps and bounds better than the Z. I've owned german cars before this and trust me, you will not regret your decision.

Z4...yeah that would NICE...LOL!

Yeah..the interior is really cheap...the passenger inside door handle just broke off...:banghead: How does this happen to a car that is only 4 years old...:hmm:

Going fast is cool..but I'd not concerned with that anymore!

I think you should pull the trigger and get a 3 series. Since speed is not your top priority now, I don't think you should have a problem moving to a 3 series. They're still pretty quick, but like everyone said, not nowhere near as quick as the Z. I also thought the interior of the Z was cheap, the dashboard and such.

considering the negative stuff I've heard about the supposed luxury-Z, the G35 Sport Coupe, it doesn't surprise me that the Nissan version has a ****-ton of problems. but, I think the fans of all the earlier Z cars would be confused if they weren't riddled with quality issues.

Hi

I was in a similar position to you.

I test drove a 350Z and LOVED the drive and power, but overall I think the E46 is better (In my opinion anyway). More refined, nicer interior, and better (hopefully) build quality as well)

So I bought the BMW instead

Go for it!!

well, i dont even know what z's go for, i wasn't ever really intrested in them. I thought about it but never really looked into it. But i'd say fix those problems and get rid of it you may be able to pick up a nice e46 for alil more then what you get for your Z. I got my 330 for 16k

general consensus is that it's not a good idea to get a bimmer that's out of warranty. with an e46 you will encounter a bunch of common nuisance problems much like in your Z, so you're not necessarily better off in terms of having to deal with fixing things. if having to fix things is the major concern to you, then replace your car with another new car. if you can afford a new bimmer, then great, if not then go for some other new cars. what i'm trying to say is that the e46 is not flawless and it will definitely cost you some money and frustration to repair things here and there.

btw, the problems and cost of repairing them that you've listed on your Z is really not that bad. try having to pay out of your pocket to replace your front control arms, trailing arm bushings, rear shock mounts, door seals, sunroof shade, window regulators, etc. they are not gonna be cheap. a brake job for your Z is $200?? try $600+ for the e46.

You will be going from 1 problem car to another. 3s are not exactly known for their reliability. They have lots of common problems that are expensive to fix. If you want a balance of quality AND performance, look at a lexus or something.

My friend got a base 06 Z for 29000. Its a fun car to drive, but is THE MOST IMPRACTICAL CAR EVER. I prefer my 330Ci, especially after I got my angel eyes!!
