i was driving home from class and notice my xenon were to low so i pulled over turn off car restarted it and notice that my DRL would cycle through the auto leveling but my xenon wont they just stayed down need help 04 325i

One of your xenon auto leveling sensors is broken. Most likely the front.
When this happens, the lights default in a downward position.

What you need to do is manually adjust the levels by turning the large black knob on the top of the headlight.

If both are aiming down, that's what it is.

In perspective it is a cheap fix, but the tiny leveling sensor is around $60 at cheapest.

I would just 'take' one from a parked e46 at night. Right on the control arm.

And it is more difficult to remove than you think.

You might want to take it to a professional and have them check for faults and re-adapt the headlight motors.

If you're lucky, it could be that the rod itself slipped out from the sensor. Just jack up the car on the passenger front side and take a look. However, if the plastic arm snapped off the sensor you still have to replace the whole unit.


No professional is required. In fact, there are not even any module specific codes for a faulty sensor (in PA Soft at least).
