Worthwhile coating body structure behind side skirts with 3M Cavity Wax?

Greetings to all,

I removed the M-Tech 2 sideskirts to replace a few broken clips and just wondering if it’s worthwhile spraying some 3M Cavity Wax in that area before reinstalling the sideskirts.

Regards,

Mark

i think it’s totally worth it. E46s tend to rust in the rocker panel area (besides other critical areas) where the clips mount to the body via green plastic inserts that are shaking and vibrating and over time they dig through paint down to bare metal and rust starts to develop. If you are lucky and yours aren’t rusted already the way can protect it. Just make sure you somehow spray it behind the clips. It will protect it from water to some extent.

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately, the rocker panels on my E46 328 Coupe are in perfect condition. I cleaned up the entire area and replaced the broken white clips/green inserts and sprayed 1-coat of 3M Cavity Wax over entire area on both sides. Was a very satisfying task.

Did you spray inside the rocker panels?
That is the next step. I purchased the 3M Cavity Wax Applicator Wand Kit to spray the rocker panels.
I’d also remove the rear wheel well liners and clean the inside of the fenders. Then spray the stuff on the inside of the fenders.

The rear wheel liners / inside of the fenders were already cleaned, metal surface painted and Cavity Wax applied.

Great!
