So I recently got offered a 2002 Silver metallic grey M3 with Imola red interior. Car has 107k miles all of the preventative maintenance has been done such as rod bearings replaced, vanos has been checked by bmw smg specialist and it’s good, subframe has been reinforced. The car is in really good condition. They sell the car for 9k, I will have just enough for this if I do end up going for it and it will be my daily. Do y’all think I should pull the trigger on it or do y’all think I should pass it up?

That sounds suspiciously cheap. Find out why. For a 170k mile car I'd say yes, for a 107k mile car, I'm not sure.

I meant 117k miles, my fault. Even still it does sound a bit sus. The car is in really good shape and the son (I’ve been in contact with the mum) has had it for 3 years and has only put about 10k miles on it. They originally wanted 11k for it but I managed to bring the price down a bit so maybe that’s more excusable.

Sounds like accident car pricing, but I’m assuming you know to check all that out... even so, as long as the work was done right, that’s still a lot of car for the money. You won’t make anything on resale though, but maybe you care and maybe you don’t.

It’s a clean title and everything. Don’t really care about making profit on it or not, like I said it would be my daily so I plan on putting miles on it if I do end up getting it. Just wanted some insight on if it was worth breaking the bank for it.

What else are you looking at for $10k?

maw
Not really looking at anything, I currently own a 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 so that’s been my car for the past 3 years. I’d sell it to get the M3 which is why I’m questioning if I should do it or not.

Too inexpensive

Something hidden in what they are not sharing with you. Extensive repair history alone worth a lot.

I have to agree with the people feeling thats too cheap. A coupe, in that combo, with EVERYTHING maintenance wise taken care of, even with an SMG is worth SIGNIFICANTLY more then that. If the car checks out, then you got a steal.....9G's is unmaintained 100k+ (probably 150+) mileage SMG vert pricing with wear..........

It's not so much that it's too cheap but you should be prepared to put some real money into any E46 until you know it better. If you barely have enough to buy the car it should be considered very risky. Also be prepared to work on it yourself and understand that parts are expensive.

Be aware that there are some things like the cooling system, vanos, and rod bearings that you may need to deal with if you don't already know the history of them. Driving an E46 M3 into the ground is not a good idea as it has a few catastrophic engine failures that can creep up quickly.
