I’m supposed to put this onto

this:
931290

I have a 2001 BMW E46 318i and i had the old ugly ass h steering wheel and i decided to buy something better so i found e36 m wheel for some cheap money and seller told me it would fit but my airbag maybe won’t work so i googled a little bit and most of the time everyone was saying that it will fit easily but now that i have disassembled both wheel they don’t look similar at all…

It should bolt on.

Unfortunately, the clocksprings are very different
(volute spring/wound- up bit of plastic wire that makes your wheel work)

between the E36 and the E46, so you may have trouble getting the electrics to
work, and

from reading a few threads on here, the E36 has a single stage airbag,
whereas the E46 has a 2- stage airbag, so that even if you get the electrics
working, the physical bag won't make the airbag computer happy.

t
what was once read on the internets.

The early E46’s came with single stage. I had the same steering wheel he’s switching from and it was a single stage, they do also make that one with a dual stage as well though. I can tell you that switching from a single to a dual did not throw an airbag light but switching backwards might. Could possibly be coded to recognize the single stage bag.
