Will my car make it to 200,000 miles?

I love my 328i. I love it more than a G35, or a new 330i, or selling my house to afford an M3. If I ever get bored with it, I'll SC it. Can I keep it forever?

I know BMW says they build their cars to last 100,000 miles, but I know there are tons of classic 535, 325, and 2002s out there with many more miles on them.

Will the trip computer force me to get inspections at an authorized BMW service center well past 100k? Will I have to shell out $500+ every 15,000 miles? Or can I start changing the oil myself and get one of those BMW-code-reset-thingys?

Anyone thought of the implications for keeping an e46 for 10-15 years or more?

If you take care of it the car should last a good long time. If you abuse it then it probably won't last that long.

I had a 1977 320i (the very first 3-series car) and it had 186,000 miles on it when I sold it and it still looked and ran like new except for a little rust in the trunk. I know several people with pre-1982 320's that have over 250,000 miles on them. And none of them have ever had to open up the engine for repairs.
