What do you mean you got $7k to scrap a car ? Did you donate it? Like to Kars for Kids?
I am not a tax advisor, and I don't play one on TV, but a $7k charitable donation is worth a lot less than selling it for even $4-$5k....

I think they put $7K into the car and it is still not right and spent more than they would get selling it - I think.
No.. I read OP's previous post and he got $7k from an insurance settlement.

Not an accountant or tax attorney either - but in a high tax state such as N.Y. and NJ ...that Kars for Kids donation is useless since WE are maxed out on our deductions at 10k...taxes and mortgage interest alone covers it...
Maybe if you have a Company and donate it thru the Company then you can have it as a charitable deduction but it isn't $1 for $1 either.
OP I say Scrap it and get the cash.As to who I dont know my 2 cents....

Don't you have a lot of scrap buyers at HUNTS POINT?
I'm sure there are far more scammers in your area. Bottom line is find a place that pays cash. CL is usually riddled with ads offering to buy scrap cars. A better option may be to call wrecking yards and see what they will give you. Many places have a fixed price if you can get it there. There's a place near my work here in PA advertising $400 for complete vehicles.
I was rear ended in oct ,ins gave.me 7k

I park it for winter so ,been on back burner

just got disability for.my back so ,mt days of car work are coming to a close

and we all.know these require work

Was gonna fix it but ,now I'm retiring so ,would be more practicle to get a.new car,I saw a corolla xse the other day, pretty nice

Yes ,would def.need to be cash deal

I’d try to sell it as a parts car before I scrapped it. You could list it here even. The fact that it’s a 330 is already giving it a fighting chance at being sold.

Scrap will get you like a few hundred and any junkyard will do it. Sounds like you are looking for a recycler for BMW in NY.

Scrap places only offer like $100 in my area. A shame to send a well running car with a dent out like that. Post it here to highest bidder. Mechanical condition good?
Yeah I bet you'd find a buyer here if you created a post in the for sale section. That, or put it up on facebook marketplace if you don't mind getting jerked around by idiots before you actually find a real buyer. Or part it out yourself and you could make a few thousand bucks.
you can get several hundred just for the cats. so keep that in mind before taking too low an offer to scrap whole car. heck I’ll give you $125 for the SDW rtabs.
Around 1990, my friend bought a wrecked 89 mustang GT 5.0 to use for parts on his 79 5.0. We stripped the car down to the shell and had it hauled off by some guy posting in the newspaper or similar.

There was literally nothing left on the car that was usable. I can only imagine he wanted the title and the Vin numbers.

Also not a tax accountant, nor a tax attorney.
But I do know that the $10k limit only applies to state and local taxes, such as income and property taxes. I know this because I am also in the high tax state of Maryland and always do my own taxes. Mortgage interest and Charitable deductions are in separate areas of Schedule A 1040, below. There also may be something applicable called the Alternative Minimum Tax which effectively limits the total of Itemized Deductions that may be claimed. I am only relating my own tax filing practices and not suggesting or promoting how anyone should file their own taxes. YMMV

@beechbmw- since this is beyond the scope of this thread ill just add before I used do be able to deduct my $16k property tax plus mortgage interest on top of everything else for federal. Now I can't deduct ALL OF IT.
Ill just leave it at that .The rest of my federal income taxes itemized deductions are pretty much inconsequential. My business deductions however are entirely separate.
