Posting same question I asked over at bf.com. Planning to put Koni yellows on my ZHP, want to know which rear shock to use because Koni recommends two different models, the 8040-1250 and 8040-1271. Is the difference in length, valving or both? Can the Koni 8040-1250Sport rear shocks be used with mild lowering springs? Can the 8040-1271 be used with stock ZHP springs?
  • Tire Rack web site specs the 1271 whether I say coupe or sedan
  • ECS Tuning web site offers the 1250 for sedan but 1271 for the coupe
  • JleviSW told me 1250 for stock springs or slightly lowered car, 1271 for more lowered cars (like H&R race or Eibach Sportline). They sell both but are out of stock on the 1250s
  • ModBargains seems to offer only the 1271
  • Koni NA web site says 1250 sedan (not M-technik), 1271 for coupe, cabriolet, touring. Application guide says 1271 okay for lowered sedan or sedan/coupe/cab with M-technik.

Which ones should I get?

Whats strange is that KONI Yellow is the only one that has 2 different struts (1250&1271) for an e46.

1250 is non-sport (+1" overall length)
1271 is sport

but why is it that all model Bilstein's & the Koni STR.T only have 1 part number for non-sport & sport applications?
