Which HID Kit Do You Think Is Best??

2882 Views 45 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Norm
I currently have the XTEC HID kit. I have been having minor flickering problem and a delay turn-on problem since the first few weeks after installation. This only happend on the left side.

Just today, it stop lighting up when I turned them on to look at the color cause Jeremy said that 6000k fogs does not look like a perfect match to my 6000k Phillips headlight. All the connections are fine. Probably the ballast or bulb died. The retailer offered a full refund but I'll have to ship the HID to him, even tho he lives in the Bay Area.

Now I'm thinking of going with the Phillips HID kit or the McGloffin (sp) kit that they sell on ebay OR ask the retailer of the Xtec kit to send me a new kit?

Which of these do you guys think is the best option to take?

The downside of the Phillips kit is the price. It cost a pretty penny, but I know the quality will be there. I think it is about 480 shipped.

hahahah....
I'm always broke. I need to learn to manage my money.

But yea, the retailer of the xtec kit is offering me a full refund of the purchase price. So I'll have $325 back to spend on a new kit. OR ask him for a new kit??

If you like the quality of the xtec kit like the output color and etc, stick with it cuz u know that their customer service is top notch. If anything happens again, u'll know that they would probably offer you the same deal. Ask them first though like if it happens again will you get the same money back deal? ...
OR .. OR
Return it, pocket that $325 and sell ur TSE2, and go get Eissenman that you always wanted. hehe ..... just some ideas. hahaha h.. also ... i'll add $10 to that too .. lol

:EDIT: wait .. was it Eissenman Race that u always wanted?!!?!
Color ouput was OK. The match was only OK to the phillips 6000k bulbs. The ballast seemed kind of iffy. The quality did not look up to par with other HID kits I've seen. I guess that the internal quality isn't so great either.

The thing about asking for the retailer to send me a new kit is pretty slim. He hates me......:eeps: But I guess it can't hurt to ask.

Yup, my goal right now is Eisenmann Race with 76x2 tips, straight pipe, and technik headers. Or I'll even run the TSE2 with technik headers. :D
WOw...seems like I'm not the only one having problems with the XTEC kit. I've gotten a few pms about people telling me that there kit does the same thing.
Pat, I think if color match is what you want, the only thing you have to do is change the bulb for a phillips one.... but still will cost you $$$
ask Jeremy if your kit looks like mine.

Yea, I think that'll be my best move, now knowing that the XTEC ballast/bulb are not good.

Jeremy was telling me that the phillips kits looks the best in terms of color. Is that what you have?

no, I have another kit...not sure which one...a friend of mine bought it in HK.
But a friend of ours (jeremy) had the phillips xenon kit for the fogs, and they were a perfect match to the 6oook xenons... If Im correct the ballast were made by hella, so as mine.... but mine dont have the phillips bulbs.

Daym, I want to call my cuz in HK and tell him to buy me a kit, but that foo is hella lazy.

Wait, so do you mean jeremy has the phillips 6000k bulbs in his fog?

ICIC. Yea, I think I'm going to just order the phillips kit since matt really wants his XTEC kit back.

No, actually I have a 02+ with OEM xenons from the factory. The HID kit I'm using is for my fog lights. .

The HID beam will definitly be brighter, not sure about wider tho, it looks the same width to me.
just so you know, philips doesn't make "kits" so what you see on the market are all done by individuals using philips bulbs + ballast, so quality vary.. want to know how to identify good from bad?

Interesting...
When I was sayin the phillips kit I wasnt sure if the whole thing was phillips... since I only seen it installed in the car.
For what my friend was telling me, he was saying the ballast are Hella and he had to buy the phillips bulbs seperately... Now the bulbs alone were like 280 for the pair.
Now whats the difference with this HID kits and the xenon headlights? Are we talking the same thing?
From waht I understand I have xenon headlights.... but seems that there is different terminology...
Pat have you seen Melissas xenon kit in her fogs? She also has 6000k fogs. Mine are like hers.
e46boy what kit/product do you use in your fogs? and where did you get it?

HID and xenon are basically the same, just different words to describe the same thing, High Intensity Discharge headlight uses xenon gas to ignite the bulbs hence the word xenon (i guess it's just a cooler term for bmw to use)

I believe e46 uses hella ballast (Correct me if i am wrong), and headlight made by bosch, and bulbs by either philips/osram.

AirBen - I am using philips ballast with 9006 philips 6000k ultinon bulbs, this kit was actually given to me by a friend, but you can find them on the net..

Jlevi is selling kits on board, he is a sponsor as well, for more sites to order kits from, click on the link i provided in my previous post. (it's now illegal to sell hid kits in US now, so it's tough to find)
