About a month ago, I got a flat tire on one of the front tires of my '01 330. So, I replaced the front tire with the full-size spare and have been driving on the spare ever since (got the flat tire repaired but not using it).

While everything felt fine for the first two weeks, I can now sense a vibration in the front tire that I replaced. This vibration can be felt at all speeds, but it's more pronounced at expressway speeds. Also, a periodic noise can be heard from the front tire that I replaced as I'm driving. I've checked out the tire tread and nothing is stuck in it.

Is a problem like this correctable by having my wheels balanced? I'd think that the spare tire is balanced from the factory. So, it's odd that I'd feel a vibration after two weeks on the brand new spare. Does anyone know?

Thanks

You make sure to torque the lugs properly? :dunno: My full size spare from my 328i was balanced from the factory. But it can never hurt to have it checked out.

Good idea. Should I re-torque the lugs by unloosening them one by one and then retorquing them with the car still on the ground, or should I remove the wheel, re-seat it, and then the torque the lugs?

When I pulled my spare out the first time, one of the stick-on weights had fallen into the spare hole.

I'd get your spare re-balanced by a pro. I'll bet that'll take care of it.

Check your lugs and make sure they are torqued to spec then get the wheel/tire balanced.

If that doesn't correct the problem...check your front control arm bushings...it's possible that problem developed at the same time you put on the spare.

Good luck.
