Say there was a 2003 BMW M3 6-Speed MT: Here were the fallowing mods:

Gruppe M Intake
JC Shark Injector
B&B Triflo Exhaust
Technik Headers
Shrick Camshaft


What do you guys think this car would be making HP wise? Also, what kind of improvement on 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Thanks

GruppeM=no hp gain at ALL (on a dyno, at least)
Shark injector=better pedal feel but same hp, maybe 2-6hp gain at most
B&B Triflo=no gain, just dif. sound
Technik headers=depends on software, maybe 5-6hp tops
Camshaft=6-10hp depending on software

So the car wouldn't be making more than 345-350hp assuming a standard M3 actually makes 333hp.

Best bang for the buck=Ground Control Gizmo for a 4-5hp gain... $79

Underdrive pulleys don't *give* you HP, but reclaim HP from parasitic losses from the alternator, etc... they are proven to restore about 10rwhp.

Honestly, modding the M3 is pretty stupid considering the engine's already heavily tuned...

Not much can make power gains on the M3.

I would recommend waiting for the Ground Control or Evosport intake... they actually make power... vs. GruppeM just looks cool... once Dinan came out with their intake Gruppe dropped their price by half... 'cuz it does nothing... lol.

Hell RMS has a supercharger setup for the E46 M3 that lowers compression etc. etc. for like $10k. Better than spending it all on headers/intake/pulleys. RMS's supercharged M3 makes about 420hp I hear. Evosport is working on a 450 WHEEL hp kit that'll be out in a few months.

Suspension mods do a LOT more than power mods on the M3. Get a set of Ground Control coilovers. H&R is good, too.

Improvement on 1/4mile maybe .1-.2 second, but that doesn't mean anything. Some drivers are better than others. A guy with the username "mathews" on Roadfly.org and on M3forum.com has a video of him doing 12.7 in the 1/4 *stock*... vs. a lot of people who aren't as experienced launching get 13.1-13.2 out of the car...

0-60 probably close to no improvement because the extra power isn't usable until the car hooks up... which would mean only in 2nd gear... and 10-15hp means nothing to a 333hp car...

Nowack goes through the entire head, cams, header, ecu tuning, etc to increase power to near 370hp. The ecu tuning is not an off the shelf version either, it's dyno tuned for the particular car they build. Redoing the bottom end with pistons, rods, balancing, etc (along with their head mods) brings it up to near 400hp.

You might stand to gain a genuine 30hp with the mods you mentioned (using the Schrick 280 intake cam which is a bit more aggressive than the standard Schrick E46 M3 intake cam).

Invest that into a good suspension, tires, and sign up for some driving courses :thumbup: better return on your investment.
