I'm not an expert so I would like to have answers to some of these questions?

- What is the correct offset for my E46 coupe ?
- If I get wheels with a 41mm offset will it look better
that getting wheels with a 47mm offset?

- True or false, lower the offset value is, closer the wheel
gets to the body?

thanks

it depends ur perspective. Offset varies per size of wheel.

if ur talking about the same size and width of a wheel. the 41mm wheel will have a bigger lip than the 47mm wheel. and the 41mm wheel will have its outerlip closer to the fender than the 47mm wheel.

Looking to get 18x8.5

Is 41 offset correct?
Is it possible to get a 35mm offset for the back?

yes 18x8.5 ET41 will fit. Many 19x8.5 wheels have ET of 38 therefore, ET41 isnt a problem. even with a ET of 35, u should be ok. However, do realize other factors also come to play
1) PCD, BMW are 5x120.
2) Tire size also matter when it comes to if you will rub or not for the size you ask for, i would suggest running 225-255 max. 255s man rub in the rear.
3) Suspension, lowering and not lowernig ur car also affect the chances of you rubbing or any other wheel/tire related dilemmas.
