I believe the question was, what is the exact PURPOSE of the steering angler sensor.

So DSC can do its job. If your car doesn't know where your intended direction is via steering input, it cant point you in the right direction via individual brake corrections, throttle modulation, etc.

it reads the angle of the steering wheel so that the ESP correct any under/oversteering depending on how much angle is on the steering wheel.
