I need a new air filter, but I don't like the stock one. I like the idea of a k & n filter that I can clean an reuse. I searched a few forums and I didn't find much on k & n filters. If anyone is using k & n filters, what do you think of them? Is there a better aftermarket filter that I can easily gets hold of?

In my truck I used a k & n filter, but the oil from it caused my mass air sensor to malfunction and I had to replace it and ditch the k & n filter. Has anyone seen these problems in the BMW

I run a K&N cone filter on my ECIS intake. For people complaining about it "f<sp>u<sp>c<sp>king up your MAF"... that's what happens when you over oil your filter when you clean it. I've driven 7 years on the same filter cleaning it every 10,000 miles (recommended every 20,000) without a single problem.

An ITG drop-in is probably the best aftermarket filter you can buy.

I have been using K&N on all my cars for years; many many years. Never had a problem, but if your afraid, dont use it; use a lesser brand. Or you can simply learn how to clean, dry, and re-oil it properly. Then you will realize improved proformance and flow. The stock filter doesnt even come close to flowing the same amount of air; try this... breath through a paper dust mask, and then breath through your cotton tee; I bet I know which one you perfer and so does your engine!

Do us a favor and post those numbers. And when you're done posting those numbers... find us the ones that show the levels needed to cause damage. Otherwise.... :shhh:
another "talk alot" "know nothing" knocking K&N. I bet he never owned a K&N in his life. Furthermore, I bet he never saw first hand numbers showing how good K&N flow compared to stock paper elements. He's a bandwagon hopper who pushes the "oil gets on your MAF" like the rest of the ignoranaces. :lmao:

Any oil forum eg BITOG or NORIA has hundreds of UOA's where it's easy to spot who's using a Krap & Nasty, in fact they are the standing joke on oil forums and most international BMW forums as the only brand of 'filter', you can pick from UOA results. Particularly sad when you can buy filters that filter 100 times beter, better airflow, better built, no oil to screw the MAF, and don't look like they were built by your grandma in her kitchen, oh and cheaper and U.S built. The classic case of superb marketing over performance.
