just curious.
Am i right in assuming that SMG looks like the step (i.e. still has the stick thingy in the center for P,R,N,D), but has the paddle on the steering wheel instead of the slideover +/- sport/auto-manual mode? and a sport botton...?
anyone has a picture of what it looks like?
thanks.

I saw one on a Z4, and it's not like the one on M3
The M3's one looks better. The Z4 one looks plain
It's not chrome like on M3, but it matches the aluminium trim on Z4
But it's still an SMG, right? I dunno what the differences are
I notice that the M3 has SMG II, and 330 has SMG only...

The SMG in the non-///M cars isn't a "true manual transmission" .....at least I don't think so. I think it's more like the tiptronic, but w/ the SMG paddles and a similar shifter style.

Here is the non-M SMG Shifter and plate.

It uses a manual tranny as in the M, it just does not have Drivelogic Programs and is slightly slower on the shifts.
