I have some Mercedes Osram D2R xenon bulbs 60050. What is the difference in them and the BMW Osram D2S 60040 bulbs?

Nope, I put them in my car and they worked just fine, they look identical but they had more of a purplish color, I like my more blue color better. I was hoping they were the 6000k bulbs.

Also are the Phillips bulbs better than the Osram?

Then it's probably just different part #'s for different cars. I haven't heard of Osram bulbs, but I have heard of Phillips, so I would say go with Phillips!

D2R xenon bulb is for headlight house without projector.
D2S bulb is for projector headlight.

AFAIK, Mercedes/Lexus/Acura xenon headlight don't have projectors.

D2S is for headlights with projectors
D2R is for headlights with reflective housing (ie your halogen based headlight assemblies)

the lesser light output is due to the ceramic shielding on the bulb.

Hi there,

I just ordered the new SLK. I believe it comes with projector lens. But not with Xenon. As it would costs another USD$3 grand. So by fixing a D2S xenon bulb would it cause an error in the speedometer? I do know that for the bmw it would cause an error but can be easily rectify. Not too sure abt benz!

I just sold an SLK, the non xenons is just a regular halogen housing, no projectors.

But also, I don't think you can get just a bulb. I think you have to get the ballast also and I know it takes a different plug than would come on a car without xenons.

I do know that i need the for Xenon i need a ballast. The thing i am worry is that after installing the Xenon, will there be an error light appear?

Do a search in the SLK forum at BenzWorld.org. There is a guy named Linh who is pretty knowledgable on all things SLK.

Since they don't have projectors your would need the D2R bulb like that came in mine not D2S that came in my BMW.

Also Mercedes do not have the indicator for lights like BMW. All it has is 1 bulb out light that you can just pull the bulb out of.
