I did try using Winkfp but i could not get it to recognize anything. I tried to update the sp daten folder and it still never recognized the egs. I tried to update the DME and it caused problems so I got a DME with ews delete to have as a backup while I tinker with this one. There is a rather heavy 2-1 shift clunk at stops and slowing down. I just don't think that is good for the transmission. I am in the big island but I can send a module your way if you can do it (anyone) via usps for rather cheap. What would need to be programmed if I got a used one with the same part numbers?
It would be much easier to just figure out your setup so you can update yourself.
- Use INPA to test if things are working, not WinKFP. INPA should have both dots solid black.
- First thing is make sure pins 7 and 8 on your INPA cable are connected together. I just opened up the OBD end of the cable and put a solder blob on the circuit board where 7 and 8 connect.
- Next thing is be sure the INPA cable is connected to your PC, then go to Device Manager and set the COM port for the INPA cable to COM1.

This is a full setup article:

I was able to use INPA to run diagnostics prior to my attempt to update the DME. It finished updating in winkfp but then would not identify the module and would not start engine. Now all I can see in INPA is the two black dots on. It does not allow me to choose a chassis or module or anything for that matter (the DME I am referring to now is a ews delete module mind you because I am unable to communicate with previous DME). I would like to install a fresh copy of INPA on my newer laptop. So I will use the instructions in the link to get it in Windows 10 but I do not have a copy of the BMW standard tools anymore. I got the updated sp daten files from a torrent provided by a post in another thread. Huge files but did not work for me. I am sure I just did something incorrect along the way. The cable I have is a k+DCAN cable. Would I need to mod that cable? I actually have two on hand.

Unless something physically went wrong with your DME it should be recoverable. I have heard of a few people who bricked their DME during a WinKFP update and recovered it. I have done a few updates that got terminated early and they all completed after I started over.

Just need to figure out what the problem is. Do other OBD tools see the DME? Does PA Soft BMW Scanner 1.4 see any other modules?

If you update a DME that has EWS deleted you will lose that feature. The EWS delete was done through modded DME software.

Yeah that's what I thought. I just use the ews delete to drive the car. I have the ms43 DME that was faulty programmed on a shelf. When I get a new copy of winkfp and standard tools I will try to reinstall but on windows 10 in VMware most likely. My little portable obd scanner can pull the codes. I have never tried pa soft. But I was thinking about getting a set of hardware on the web to try it out. I have heard the software is free/downloadable. If I got a gs20 module with the the most superseded part number from realoem.com what programming would need to take place for it to be compatible with my vehicle? All the vendors say it needs to be programmed. ? I figured with an ews delete it would probably work plug and play but that is simply an uneducated hunch. Thanks for working with me!

The EGS does not need to be coded to your car. Not sure why you want another one? Your existing one should be fine.

Would the latest EGS module have the latest software or did that level of software release after 2005?
The updates stopped shortly after E46 went out of production. You can see the version history in these files.
DME: DATEN Files\v59\E46\data\MDS43\mds43.his
EGS: DATEN Files\v59\E46\data\GD20\gd20.his

Hi BaliDawd,

Today I going to receive my INPA cable and my BMW SCANNER 1.4 cable but everything is almost set up in my laptop, I have INPA 5.0.6 (EDIABAS 7.3.0), BMW SCANNER 1.4 and yesterday I had installed ISTA 3.41.

I want to know how to check my EGS and DME version because I have DINAN components like:

Exhaust
Throttle body (checked by myself)
Front and rear strut tower brace

So I need check if I have the software DINAN too.

I have never used any diagnostic software.

Thanks.

Does the fact that I have a euro 2 flash effect how updating it works? Or is it a universal update?
No, it won't affect it. When you do Update ZUSB, it reads your current version and uses that to look for any newer compatible version in the history file. If it finds a newer one it suggests updating to that.

Here are the steps to do an update using WinKFP.
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showpost.php?p=16917000&postcount=94

My guess is you already have the latest available if you flashed in an EU2 file.

You can easily check your current version using PA Soft BMW Scanner 1.4. Look in its log file under # USER INFO FIELDS. See this post for the details.

If you have a non-stock tune in there, it likely either won't be displayed or will display incorrectly.

I want to know if there is a new update to my DME and EGS
According to that info, here is the version history:
DME:
5/15/2002 7520966
7/20/2009 7545671
6/27/2013 7545671

EGS:
5/15/2002 7523496
6/27/2013 7546094

I posted the MS43 DME version history here:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showpost.php?p=16903580&postcount=86
It shows that 7545671 is the latest.

I posted the GS20 EGS version history here:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showpost.php?p=16903579&postcount=85
It doesn't list either 7523496 or 7546094.

Note that either module can be updated without its version being added to the history in the module if you uncheck the UIF write options before updating, as seen here:

Perfect, I have searched in realoem.com the numbers 7523496/7546094 and they are for EURO CARS, my car is EURO maybe all that EGS versions that you had listed are for US CARS. I don't know, I just suppose.

But tell me something as you say , if in the future, one day I want to reprogram my EGS module (BOSCH), can I use any EGS software (BOSCH) US version to my EURO car? always respecting that my car is an 330i.

Here is more info about the EGS module:

# SCAN START
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unit BMWTNR HW SW-FSW CI DI BI/VI Date Odometer ADFG Algorithm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EGS -> 7.548.312 2H 22 00 11 60 17/02 159800 km 000000 GS8.60.4 E38/39/46/85

What would be the latest EGS (BOSCH) US version for my ZF 5HP19?

As a spare part I have a BOSCH = (production date: 02-06-03) ( 7 522 980 / 7523490 )from a donor car VIN KM22986 and my VIN start with the letters KN and production day is May 2002.

If for any reasons my actual EGS module gone bad , can I use my spare EGS without the necessity of reprogram it?

Sorry for all that questions but lately my transmission is acting up funny when shifting.

Thanks again.
