hey guys... anyone ever changed fluid in the manual tranny.. i'm wanting to put redline in it.. now .. i dont have a performance shop to take it to so, i'm gonna borrow a buddies lift.. but the ? is where do i fill it? There has got to be a drain plug and a fill plug. does anyone know where it is located at .. i got a 2002 325i manual.. thanks

Yes, there is both a drain and a fill plug.

Drive the car a few miles to warm up the transmission.

After raising the car, remove the drain plug from the bottom of the tranny. Be sure to put a catch basin underneath before taking out the plug.

Retighten the plug to 37 ft-lbs.

Remove the filler plug on the side. Fill it with Redline D4ATF (BMW's recommendation) until it starts to overflow the hole (probably 1.2 liters if you have the ZF tranny - less if it's a Getrag, but it's probably a ZF, so buy two bottles).

Retighten the plug.

Change the diff oil while you're there with Redline 75/90 gear oil.

Go for a drive. It will probably be a lot faster, smoother, and attract more babes!

Which side? A friend of mine that works at an oil change shop says he cant find it.

REMOVE THE FILLER PLUG FIRST (in case you cant get it out, so you wont have an empty tranny)

If your friend cant find the plugs on this tranny, he must be blind. They stick out like sore thumbs on these trannys. On on the passenger side and one on the bottom. Try a search and you will find lots of info.

Yeah - like he said - a sore thumb. If you imagine drawing a line around the circumference of the tranny, the filler and drain plug would be on the same line.
