Has anyone with an xi successfully install their own UUC SSK? I hear it's a real pain in the a$$ but want to know if it's doable.

I have, three times (on my own car). The SSK isn't really available yet (unless you're looking for just a replacement shift lever, with no difference in throw), I'm still waiting on the latest (and hopefully last) prototype from Rob.

so the one they're selling which is supposed to work for the XI doesn't work? Also how hard have the installs been. Anything different or just a tighter squeeze?

As far as I know, the xi kit has not changed since I purchased it (which was when it first became available). This means that the lever has almost the exact same proportions as the stock lever, which will afford you no difference in throw, only in feel.

As far as installation goes, you need to drop the transfer-case-end of the transmission, as well as the exhaust in order to get at the shift lever from below. Figure about 3-4 hours if you've never done it before.

I heard much the same thing. I asked around and I heard you had to drop the transmission to install it, didn't hear the exhaust comment but sounds pretty likey. I asked at Bimmerfest and the guy from UUC said it was only worth it if you where lowering the transmission for some other reason otherwise it wasn't worth the effort.

Sorry, I want one too.
