Auberlen Leads Flag To Flag In Florida
SEBRING, FL - 03/14/2003 - Once the green flag fell for Bill Auberlen today there was no catching him. The Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs driver won today's 40-minute Speed Touring Car race with a 1.372-second victory over Pierre Kleinubing. Will Turner finished in 9th. The win capped off a clean sweep of the charts by the Turner Motorsport team this week.
Turner Motorsport has dominated this week's Touring Car events with fastest times in every session. Drivers Auberlen and Will Turner repeatedly broke lap records in Practice and Qualifying. Auberlen's win in his Garrett Popcorn BMW came during a caution-free race in which he also set fastest lap time. Vast amounts of testing time paid off with a near-perfect car.
Will Turner ran in the top ten all day and finished the race in 9th place. "I am very happy with my finish here today. I think my Toyo tires worked really well. Even with a spare motor in the car our performance was pretty solid. Mosport is up next and I can't wait to get back up in front and run with my teammate."
Frank Selldorff pulled off an impressive performance today as well. Starting from 35th place he shot up through the field to finish in 21st place. For his drive past 14 cars, he was awarded the Sunoco Hard Charger Award.
