I don't know what you're trying to accomplish, but in terms of overall diameter 255/40-17 is a better match to 225/45-17 than 245/40-17. The down side is that you'll get even more understeer.
what do u mean u dont know what im trying to accomplish, i have 245s in the back and 225s in the front stock, next time i get tires i wanna make it wider in the back for better handling, i was wondering if i went a size up in the back, should i go a sie up in the front, should i do 255s in the back with 225s in the front OR 255s in the back with 235s in th efront, its a simple question bro, i still cant figure out why u dont know what im trying to accomplish

Getting wider tires in the back won't really give you better handling. For more neutral handling go same size all around.

Your original post only asked what the difference in ride would be. You didn't state whether you were looking for more neutral handling, more traction for launches, or more steady state cornering grip.
