What is a good air pressure (38 psi?) recommendation for these size tires? plz suggest. thanks.

Sounds about right. I'd run them at about 32-33 front 38-40 rear.

I've always been curious, but why is it always a good rule of thumb to run tire pressure higher in the back?

I run mine 38 all around and was wondering if that's okay too, or, if not, why not?

I'm normally just quoting numbers on or near BMW recommended air pressures based on size and model of vehicle.

Generally running higher air pressures can make the tires feel more responsive, but will cause the center of the tire to wear faster than the shoulders.

one more thing, my Pirelli 7000's are almost all worn out, so I was wondering what other tire brands you'd recommned for the similar price range?

For all seasons like the tires you have now I've been very impressed with the new Pzero Nero M+S, and like the Sumitomo HTR+ as well. For summer only tires, the Bridgestone S-03 or Goodyear F1GSD3 have both been fantastic.
