I was at a light with a SLK, not sure which model but it said compressor on the side. When we took off I had him in 1st but he past me by the time i got into second. It happens all the time to me, for some reason whenever i shift from 1st to 2nd I guess my revs dip too much because there is a slight lag inbetween shifts. When I shift I slightly let off the gas and clutch, shift then hit the gas again. WTF am i doing wrong? It sucks because I'm losing to cars I shouldn't be losing too because of this. That douch in the SLK probably thought he was the **** because he beat me.

Don't let off the gas between shifts. It isnt good for the car but the clutch catches a lot faster and you won't let the revs dip nearly as much. You'll get some chirp on the rear tires too.

Why is not good to let off the gas when you shift? If you are constantly on the gas while you are shifthing, you will be slipping the clutch, which isn't good. I'm always off the gas when I shift......might be a little diff b/c i have a ltw flywheel though, which makes the pedal really sensitive.......

Nevertheless, try to clutch in, shift, clutch out, and mash the gas as quickly as possible :).

Powershift

Don't let off the gas just use the clutch. When you push in the clutch to go from 1st to 2nd your RPMs will shoot up close to the rev limiter. If you shift fast enough it won't come near the rev limiter. When you shift like this you will hear the transmission slamming the car in to gear but the car lunges forward when 2nd kicks in. When you feel yourself being thrown back in the seat when 2nd gear engages you know your powershifting. Its terrible for your car but its the way to shift when racing.

You need to have someone show you to really get the feel of it. I wouldnt practice it too much. Missing a shift isn't fun either

I used to do this all the time in my Mustang back when I was a teenager. I could chirp 3rd gear big time. I went through a trainy the first 10,000 miles

Sounds like you just can't shift, you were racign a SLK230 which should be no problem, you do have 19s and a bit extra weight though. However you should be able to beat him regardless. Just practice shifting quicker that seems to be your problem

The most effective way to shift is this:

1 - Disengage DSC
2 - Engage S6 mode
3 - rev the engine to 8,000 RPMs in 1st gear
4 - Tug the right shift paddle

At this point, just about any car should be seeing your tail lights...

All this assumes however, that you have an M3 SMG
