Hi guys, I've had my 330 sport convertible for 5 years now. Had a Z3 2.8 sport before it for a couple of years and a e36 before that. The 330 has now got 50K miles (2001). It's fairly mint, 19 rims, well looked after...

I'm thinking about getting a Maserati 3200, 3.2 twin Turbo with 370 bhp! They're fairly cheap-ish, though can be a fortune to run if they go wrong. They look gorgeous, sound amazing (Ferrari engine) and very classy. Understated style.

I'd like to get the Grandsport but decided not to, saving to buy a house. Wife would kill me! The 3200 is only around another £5-6k on top of what id get back for the 330.

I thought I'd ask if anyone on here has made the change? or at least thought about a 3200. I had thought about changing to e46 M3 but decided to get something different (non BMW) if I change.

No doubt I'll miss the 'vert in the summer. Think the Maser may make up for it though.

What do you think?

I had a colleague who bought one of those.. a world of pain. Within a few months he had a prob and upon diagnosis, was told it would require a £10k rebuild to put right.. the cause? sitting at lights with the clutch in. He argued it as being a design flaw with the vehicle, got his lawyer involved and didnt foot the bill in the end, but a lot of hassle nonetheless. Also it just generally absorbed money and had miscellaneous issues. After life with a BMW you could find it a bit of a struggle!

..but yeh when he peeled off out the company car park it made an awesome sound!

I suggest you head on over to 6speedonline.com and search around a bit, there are some very well off members there that could provide you with personal advice on ferrari/maserati ownership.

From the time I spent reading there..don't do it.

Yeah you'll look good but do you know how much you'll be paying for that?

Simple things like belts are known to require pulling the engine, etc. etc.

Maintenance is extremely expensive on those vehicles seeing as how most indy shops wont touch them. Then theres the matter of insurance.

From a financial point of view buying an old ferrari or maserati is a money pit.

My friends dad owns a quattroporte, and while the car is beautiful to look at you don't want to hear how much the maintenance is..bout 4k for a clutch which needs replacing much more often then a regular car..add a cc pump another 2k..just a few items.

a quote from maseratilife.."12,500 mile service (lube, oil and filter change, general service items, plus CHANGE OF CLUTCH, CHANGE ALL TIRES) $ 9,800"

Save up and enjoy your house which will only gain value. The car sadly, will not.

Wait, a Brit contemplating a Maserati without any consideration for an Aston Martin?

Jeremy Clarkson just might have to pay you a visit.

Aston Martin > Maserati
IMHO

Too add a few more points to the equation: the maser would be auto and not my daily drive.

To put this into perspective I've done 20k miles in five years of owning the 330.

I have heard they cost a fortune to put right if they go wrong. Guess that's the risk right?

Just fancy a change more than anything

I have a friend who has a Maserati (& an Aston Martin), loves the car when it's working but has little complimentary to say about it's reliability and the service he has received from both the delear & Maserati.

Thought about it, either a C4S or a Turbo. Both 996. In UK a 996 C4S would be ~£25/27k and a Turbo ~£30/32k. Both with decent options, spec'd, low-ish miles etc.

Though both would mean buying a house (currently own a flat) would be put back.

Probably rather have a GranSport instead of either option tbh...
