I have a bad outer driver side tie rod end, ordered a replacement marked as “outer left”. Went to install it and it doesn’t match the driver side but matches the passenger side. I looked at the tie rods on the car now and the driver side has an “R” stamped on it and the passenger side has an “L” stamped on it. That’s backwards to every vehicle I’ve worked on.

my question is, is this a bmw thing or did someone get these switched up when installing?

It’s left and right from the point of view of the driver’s seat

Going off YouTube vids and looking at the shape of the ends (they have a curve, they are backwards. Plus the one I ordered says Left and that should be the drivers side always.

whoever worked on this car previously did a lot of bad repairs. I just went to remove this outer tie rod and the nut wasnt even tight.

I just pulled the tie rod end off with my hands. No pickle fork needed. It amazes me how people can ruin cars with their “repairs”
