Tesla's Model S P85 shows what an EV can do on the drag strip, going up against the C7 Corvette Z51. With 100% of the cars torque available from the moment you push down the throttle, it's no wonder it was able to stay ahead of the Vette over the quarter mile. Sure the Corvette would catch up in the top end, but for everyday use, that immediate torque from the electric motor is amazing.

Watch the Tesla Model S take down the C7 Corvette in the quarter mile.

Another EV/Petrol match up, not too long ago, a BMW i3 pull an M3 off the line and held it's own to 60 mph. Again, the electric reigned off the line. This makes me wonder, how would the i8 perform in a drag race? 362 hp (max. torque: 420 lb-ft) and a 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds, that's real close to the Tesla P85. What else would you like to see the i3 or i8 drag race?

Here's a refresher of the BMW drag race, i3 vs. M3.

If I was a Chevy engineer, I would be embarrassed. The "quintessential" American sportscar beaten by a new electric car?

I have to admit the Tesla looks amazing. I have to do a double take every time I see one.

Don't know...that doesn't look like an even start and it appears to be an 1/8 mile track, and the C7 walked and was pulling away. Sory, not sold...
