Hey guys, here's my dilemna.
I'm thinking of buying a JBL w12GTi Sub. It is only available with dual 6 ohm voice coils. I already have a US ACoustics 2150 amp. The porblem is that to get decent power out of the amp i would have to run the voice coils in parallel, which would give me 3 ohms of impedance. If i bridged the amp it would then see a 1.5 ohm load. It is only rated down to 2 ohms. I'm not really worried about frying the amp because i won't be pushing it very hard and it is an old amp anyway. My concern is that the auto-protect cicuit will kick in because the amp thinks the low impedance is actually a short across the speaker terminals.
So, in short, will my amp even power up with a 1.5 ohm load, or am i wasting my time.
BTW, I originally went looking for a Kicker Solo-Baric 12L7 but the guy at the shop is giving me a heck of a deal on this sub. MSRP is $599(I checked it on JBL's website) and he is selling it to me for $418.40 with a box.
Thanks,
DKJ
